Loxian Captain, we do not wish further confrontation. We are prepered to leave your territory, or engage in diplomatic talking. You will find out that the Species that entered your territory has left. Any hostile actions from your part will cause a reponce from our part!

*makes a signal to Brooks cut the audio*

Dalon, if they get any closer to the probes that Species 8472 left back here, they will probably be attack. That should open their formation and give us Space to go to warp. I am transfering energy to engines *taps something on his consele* so set a course from out of this system at warp 8.7, passing as close as possible to the area caught by the subspacewave. If all their ships tries to follow us some of them might enter that area and they won´t be able to go to warp speed.
Brooks, raise shields and prepare wepons. If the probes do no open the space we need to get out of here we will have to open our way ourselves!

Gentleman, we are waiting Captain Sanchez that should get back with new information on the attack that Station Avalon was victim. In the meanwhile, you could get familiarized with your stations and perform a check on relevant systems.

What do you think, do we need to do some more tests to make sure we are dealing with this specie....or maybe we can find something which can defend us!"

I was thinking, since the data indicates that Species 8472 ships are organic, we should try to hit them with some kind of disease conjugated with our phasers and torpedoes radiations bursts. For that we would need a help from a doctor. Another possibility is that they might be affected if our weapons were set to cause the same subspace distorcion they use. There is no indication that they have defences against their own weapons. We have a problem in our hands, and we need time to solve it. I think we should ask the Captain to make a full stop since we are already close off the fluidic gate, and  we need to implement the changes we judge necessary.

=A= Dalon to Captain Sanchez =A=

Captain, our ETA is now 30 minutes. The navigotional sensors show a small subspace rift straight ahead. It is logical to assume the it is the gate to the fluidic space. No ship detected so far, though the nav sensors are less accurate than the tactical and science ones at this range.

This can be done Commander. But since they are already at weapons range, they probably have already detected us. And if they came to retrieve the emergency data recorder, they might even have seen us transpoting it into the Evolution. If I am not mistaken the transport was completed after they droped out of warp. But I can perform the warp field invertion if you preffer, Sir.

Elspeth punched in the course and the warp speed into the console.

"Course layed in, Captain," she reported, "Engaging. Now."

And with just one more punch into the console, the Evolution warped into space on it's destination.

*enters the engineering, takes a look at some some old reports, makes some analisys and dyagnostics, and finnally taps his com badge*

" Lt. Commander Lagos to Captain Sanchez. Sir, this is that reported you asked:
The warps nacelles are working out of the approprieted sincrony. The magnetic constrictors are not set in the desirable strenght. If the ship keeps working like this
it would cause micro fractures in the dilithium matrix, that would make the need to replace it much sooner. Luckly all this can be corrected while we are still at warp, but I got to ask you, how long we have been without a chief engineer? There are minor situations down here  that will need my attention untill late at the night, altought it could also wait if some emergency need my presence. I shall give you another report as soon it is all finished.
Lagos out"

Mr lagos .. as you may not be aware of .. Species 8472 is not affected by any chemical or biologicla Agent known to Starfleet ro the rest of the Qudrant.  The only weapon found useful against them was what Janeway used and there is nothing much in the way of Data for it since it was agreed to not be used again.

But the thought however is an interesting 1.

*he walks into the turbolift and orders it to the deck of sickbay, where he arrives a few moments later*

"Dr. Chemia, Dr. Keilah. How are things going here? Anything new to report? All information we could get now might be very valuable as we are to meet them in less than an hour from now."

"Battle stations!  All hands, battle stations!  Red alert!"

The Loxian ships move closer to the Evolution and open fire heavily.  The ship shudders and rocks, shaking all over and many computer panels exploding on the bridge, in engineering and many other sections.  The red alert claxons are blazing.  Sanchez is still in his captain's chair, holding tight onto it.

"Return fire at once!  Full spread quantum torpedoes!  Load phaser banks!"

But before the order can be carried out, the ship is taken under fire again and shakes heavily.  Sanchez falls from his chair, bumping his head against a panel that explodes in the attack.  He is thrown back by the force of the explosion and heavily falls on the ground, his face all over with blood.  He tries to open his eyes, and sees a blurry vision of the bridge, filled with smoke, and Zephram Lagos hurrying toward him.  He tries to speak with the last strengths he feels he has.

"It was... a mistake to... come here... but there is... no way... back... now...  Mr. Lagos... you have... the bridge... take care of my ship..."

And he closes his eyes and loses his consciousness.

OFF: good luck with the mission and see you in june :)

However, if I remember correctly, the last encounter beetween Voyager and species 8472 ended with diplomacy, and there might be a chance of resolving our situation without violent means that would blow my engines. Anyway, should be pointed out that this is not a war ship in essence, altouhgt we have ways to defend ourselves. The term fleet would be incorrect, sir. I am detecting only five other ships heading to this system, though others may be hiding on the asteroid fields nearby.

We may consider the possibility that the Loxians are simply bluffing. It would be illogical to move a large fleet into enemy territory when one has no information about it's defenses, even for a territorial and emotional specias as the Loxians.

*keeps looking to his tricorder in silence, for several moments after someone appered, than looks at the person*

"Come in Lieutenant. I requested a tactical officer to help me anylise the damage Species 8472 weapons caused on Neelix´s ship. So far I came with almost nothing diffrent than the data Voyager already provided. The problem is, they had how to create borg nano implants in the photon torpedoes as a weapon, witch we can not do. The only thing I realized is that their wepons might cause a subspace distortion, and if we could find the frequency of that distortion we might set our shields to compensate in the same frequency, making than much more efficient.  What do you think Lieutenant?"

=A= Lagos to Lt. Dalon=A=

"Mister Dalon, those modifications are already taking too much energy. But I never said it would be eficient against an entire fleet of species 8472. Try less enemy ships, and new stretegy, because with the data we have avaiable there is not much I can do to improve efficiency. However the information provided by the simulation will increase both shields and engines responce. But, if you are going to use the Picard maneuvre more than twice you will blow my engines anyway! And if you don´t mind me saying, out of the record, it was a quite emotional simulation for a vulcan, Lieutenant!"

One moment Sir.

*works some minutes*

Apperantly it is a territorial struggle. The Loxians detected the presence of alien activity in this system that they consider theirs. A Loxian ship was sent to attack the invaders and was destroyed (the debris we found). This one was crippled by a Species 8472 probe. They are saying some insults to one another. Sir, the Loxian Ship has just threated Species 8472, saying that a fleet of ships are being moved to this systems to defend it. Mr Dalon, does long range navegational sensors confirm this?

=A= Dalon to Lagos =A=

Indeed, Mr. Lagos, we have faced more than one ship. But it was logical to let the computer simulate a rendom number of them, since we do not know what we will encounter at the gate.

About the emotional responses of the holographic crew, I tried to reproduce as best as I could the usual human response under stressful situations.

The response of a vulcan crew would have been different, but simulating their personalities was essential to help Mr. Brooks, as youhumas say, "get into" the simulation. And for me it was important to simulate all the types of possible distractions.

Oh, and rest assured. I will not "blow up" your engines, Mr. Lagos. It was just the logical response to that threat.

=A Dalon out =A=

Computer, begin simulation. Use only one enemy ship.

Mr Brooks, this is what I want you to do. Prepare another subspace beacon and integrate it on a warhead of a photonic torpedo. I will programe the beacon to emite the same warp frequency that a Loxian Ship. So it will attract the probes. Program the torpedo to explode near a Loxian ship, so the probes change the target to that ship. I think we will have the space we need to get out of here with that. We might have to finish the job, opening our way with our weapons so after my order to fire the beacon you can fire at will to open it. You too mr Dalon can proceed to warp whenever you think you have a secure space.

Aye sir. Full reverse.

*the ship moves towards the border of the sector*

Sir, the Loxians are dropping out of warp. The readings indicate that four of the ships are of the same class of the one that was negotiating with species 8472. The other one seems to be a fighter carrier, due to the many smaller and independent power sources I am reading inside the ship.

*pauses for a moment*

Sir, the readings may also correspond to that of very dangerous and powerful fusion devices, that are mostly used as bombs. It is logical to assume that the Loxians are willing to bombard and raze the planets of this sector if they cannot expel species 8472 from them.

Sir, the planet we first encountered had more than 10 billion scentient life forms...

For now it is the OPS responsibility.

Captain, I don't think we should engage in hostilities with the Loxians. Is there a way we can draw them off?

AHA!

If we invert our warp field to match the frequency of a Species 8472 ship, they may be frightened off. Also, that may give us a window of safety to travel closer to the planet to study what 8472 is doing there.

Indeed mr Dalon. Unless they are not very much fond of logic. And they might try to get here and retrieve the data recorder we have, so they can study their enemy. That would make us a target, if they know we have it. Anyway, it would be five ships against one of the Species 8472, since at this distance the defence probs at the planet wouldn´t make any difference. What should we do Captain?

"Everyone, a moment of your time please.  We received new orders from Starfleet.  You may know personally, or you may have read it in Starfleet's News, about Neelix, the Federation ambassador in the Delta Quadrant.
Well, we are given the coordinates of his location, because we need to go pay him a visit.  There is something important he needs to talk about, I heard, and it's too dangerous to discuss over comm transmission. So you could say this is a mission we have no clue of what we're getting ourselves into.

All stations please report.

Engineering, status?
Sickbay, status?
Operations, status?
Tactical, status?

And besides, are the repairs complete, and have all our crewmembers come back on board after their time off on station Avalon? I want us to get going as soon as possible!"

*turns to the Captain*

Captain, our ETA is now 15 minutes and the nav sensors show one reading that might be a ship, near the fluidic gate. Perhaps Mr. Brooks can give you further detail with the tactical sensors.

*some seconds later the console beeps*

I am getting another reading now. Many widely spread readings, in fact. It is logical to assume, using the data Mr. Lagos provided, that it is the debris of a ship.

The remnant warp signature of the debris is rather difficult to identify, but the computer has narrowed down the possibilities to a Loxian, Thalaxian or Cardassian vessel. Once more, Mr. Brooks or Mr. Lagos might give you further details.

Captain, might I ask what is Loxian? The computer has data about it's warp signatures, but I am not familiar with that term.

The doors of the turbolift slide open, revealing the bridge before Neelix's eyes, and he walks inside.

"You asked for me captain? Sorry it took me so long, I was just helping the cook at your messhall how to make Plomeek soup! So, how can I help..." then he sees the viewscreen, the debris and in the far distance the fluidic gate.
"Uh oh... that's no good. Loxians... I know them too, very dangerous. And when a Loxian ship is destroyed, others always return to avenge the death.
Also, captain, you don't see any activity of Species 8472 right now, but that doesn't mean they aren't there. You'll see, as soon as Loxians arrive here, Species 8472 will come out of nowhere and you'll be finding yourself in the middle of a battle!"

At that moment, the panel of Mr. Dalon beeps to indicate the Loxian ship has arrived and is dropping out of warp.

Silm couldn't believe the damage that the Evolution had taken, though she seemed to be in one piece. He had never seen Nelix before and was amused that the tales he had heard were... rather true. He smiled as he monitored the ships status.

Sir, it appears that the "planets" are moving. The sensors are detecting a massive gravity well going into warp. If they maintain their present course and heading, then it is logical to assume that they are going to the Corporation.

Captain, I believe that me and Mr. Brooks are fit for most hostile encounters now, sir. Ou rate of survival was of 86.3% if we face just one ship and 68.3% if we face more ships. This clearly indicates that should we engage more than one ship, we should escape imediately and ask for reinforcements, though, as Lt. Commander Lagos said earlier, we may not need to fight them.

Also, the data provided by the simulations helped Mr. Lagos improving and correcting his calculations and adjusts for the shields and engines.

Captain, we have reached the fluidic gate. Dropping out of warp.

*a solar system appears on the viewscreen, with something like a bluish wirlpool orbiting the star close to the fourth planet of the system,  though they appear on the screen as small dots, due to the distance. closer to the ship is another class M planet, with some clouds and a vast purple ocean. the star is paler than Earth's sun*

Sir, we are now 40 million kilometers away from the gate.(OFF: This is a bit less than the minimal distance between Earth and Mars) It's current bearing is 234.5 mark 7.

The second planet on this system seems to be inhabited. It is only 300 thousand kilometers away(OFF: That's more or less 100 times the distance between Earth and the Moon), bearing 005.3 mark 1.

The debris field is closer to us. 10 million kilometers away bearing 258.6 mark 2.

There are mild gravimetric waves emanating from the star. Their frequency seems to be in ressonance with the gate's. This strengthens Lt. Lagos's hypothesis about the location of the gate.

The gravimetric waves emmited by the star seem to enhance the singularity and stabilize it, sir.

And thoes class M planets... perhaps humanoid life forms are brought there for tests or whatever, and most humanoid life forms, except Species 8472, do need a class M environment, after all.
Bring the ship closer, slowly, and keep checking if any other activity is around. Let's start with scanning those Class M planets."

*ten minutes later*

Captain, we are now on transporter range of the debris field. Would you like me to stop or proceed to the planet?

Perhaps, their computer core is still intact. If this were true then the ship's log would shed some light on this situation...

*taps commands on his console*

Sir, I am scanning the field searching for any sign of the computer core or other recording device...

*the computer beeps*

I have found what seems to be an emergency beacon on a Loxian frequency. It is comming from 031.4 mark 1 and it would be logical to assume that it is some sort of emergency recording device, much like those that Starfleet uses, sir.

*console beeps again*

Sir. There is a Loxian ship heading to this system on warp 5. It's ETA is 10 minutes. I am not completely sure, but it seems to be a small ship, equivalent in size to Starfleet's Defiant Class.

We should work on setting subspace beacons to emit a reversed subspace signal arround the gate in case there is this subspace wave. That should hold the shock wave to a very limited area of space that would have minimum effect on the development of the species on the planet.

This is no good. Sir, if we are to engage in battle with any one but Species 8472, we should turn the enhancements we made to fight them off, because they consume too much energy that will be needed in different battle strategy. I can turn off the suspace emitters on the main deflector dish, that are the part that consumes most of the energy in orther to provide the suspace distortion, but i will need about 7 minutes to do it, and 7 imnutes to turn them on again. Should I procede Captain?

*turns to Lt. Lagos*

That is inded a logical line of thought, Lt. Cmdr. Lagos. But it wouldn't explain the fact that the gate is orbiting the star very closely to the planet.

The Loxians do not seem capable to open such a gate, so the only logical answer is that species 8472 opened it. Being this the case, why would they open a gate near a Loxian colony?

Species 8472 does not seem to attack without provocation. They first attacked as a response to a Borg attack... Though they may have decided to begin a systematic extermination of life forms on our space and the location of their gate is just a coincidence, which would be an equally logical possibility.

As I said, Captain, it appears that this gate requires some time to open completely. I now have a better reading of what is crossing the singularity, sir. The sensors are not very precise, but it seems to be a vessel two or three times larger than our own, judging by it's gravity well.

*pauses for some seconds and then looks at the Captain again*

Captain, the singularity that lies at the heart of the gate is a point in which space is infinitely curved in itself. It is stable while at rest.

When the gate starts to open, though, a delicate balance of energy is required to maintain the singularity and elarge it enough to let a ship come through without making it collapse. During the opening phase, which I have been monitoring for some minutes now, the complex subspace field that surrounds the singularity, and that makes it stable and imprevious to any attack attempt, has become fragile in some points.

We could fire a coherent beam of gravitons from our deflector dish into one of the "holes" that appeared in the field and, if my claculations are correct, make the singulatity collapse in itself, sealing the gate, though it is logical to assume that soon another one would be opened.

It is important to say that the "holes" appear following a caothic pattern, so I can predict the location of the next "hole" just seconds before it opens and they stay open for a fraction of a second.

Also, this can only be attempted when the gate is opening or closing. If a ship comes through it, we will not be able to seal the gate until it enters this transitory state again, sir.

I have also detected some electro-magnetic traffic through the singularity, even before it started to "open". It is comming from the probes, so it is logical to assume that they are in continuous comunication with the fluidic space. There is a chance that the probes are disabled for the time the gate is sealed, enabling us to approach the planet safely. But this is only a hipothetic scenario, sir.

*computer beeps*

Sir. The probes are firing on the Loxian ship. I am detecting several power surges throughout the ship. Their warp core seems to be unstable, sir. I am relaying the data on the ship to Lt. Cmdr. Lagos' station.

=^= Incoming transmission from Station Avalon =^=

Hello everyone there, this is your captain speaking. Things seem a mess over here, it's a miracle the station hasnt fallen apart completely yet! But as your scanners probably saw, a huge ship from something called "The Corporation" has arrived and is setting a bunch of people to work into helping to repair the station.
But in this mess, the admirals are busy too and didn't get around to work out a new mission for our ship yet.  So in the meantime, I suggest that some of us help out on repairs on the station.  Mr. Lagos, could you gather together a "repair team" and beam over to station Avalon?  But make sure there are people left to keep running the ship too ;) Thank you.

- Lt. Cmdr. Tier
- Lt. Cmdr. Crusher
- Lt. Cmdr. Guldokut
- Lt. Cmdr. O'Brian
- Lt. Cmdr. Odo
- Councellor Archer
- Diplomat Picard

He sighs... the death rate was high.  He would have to request new people from station Avalon, but the loss would still be grievious.

Title: USS Evolution - Mission 3 : Revisiting Neelix
Post by: Dalon on March 30, 2003, 05:21:54 AM
Captain, I know this is not my function, but while I was looking through the data that Voyager brought on species 8472 to simulate their tactics accurately, I came accross some data on the peace talks held onboard by Admiral (and then Captain) Janeway.

Should they follow a logical course of action, it seems unlikely thet we will face a hostile situation. However, the superior officers of the species 8472 might have decided that those talks are void and to attack us again.

In this case, since I have been trained as a science officer as well, might I recommend that, as soon as we encounter them and if none of them is to come aboard as a guest, the lighting parameters could be altered to a level that would couse them discomfort and perhaps blindness.

Their pupils seem to be inadequate to deal with a high level of ultra-violet radiation. This is both good and bad for us, since humans are also quite succeptible to this kind of radiation. Perhaps special glasses could be distributed to the crew. And doctor Chemia should administer a protective lotion, sice the UV radiation is known to affect human skin.

As to me and most of the non-human crew, I believe no prevention would be needed. Vulcan has no ozone layer and in result vulcans are highly resistant to that radiation, though it would be logical to tell the medical staff to see if there is any non-human crewmember that would require special care.

I hope that I have not been improper by suggesting this, Captain.

*He thinks to himself "so it is about to begin now. Soon there will be no way back. Either we will come back from this mission with great accomplishments, or not at all. I hope I made the right decision to go meet them head on."*

It was proved in the past that Species 8472 had the ability to create quantum singularitys that would provide temporary passage from their realm to our galaxy. But a permanent gate it seems to be the first time. They might have to limite their choices of the place to open the gate due to specific conditions, that could be found on that specific system. Nevertheless, I belive we will have an answer to our question soon enough.

Captain, it seems that the Loxians took some time to belive in our treats, but they did, because they started to move away form the probes firing range. They are now out of its range, but the first shots caused severe damage to their warp core, that is as a matter of fact stable, but now off line. I belive their comunications systems is working though, and they can receive audio transmitions.

I speak for Species 8472. This form I am "wearing" is that of part of the population of the inhabited planet of this System. Our readings indicates that you are from Federation. But we had information that Federation wasn´t at this quadrant of space, besides Voyager. What is your business here Federation?

Aye sir. Preparing graviton pulse.

*starts making calculations and the pauses and looks at Lagos*

Sir, I must say that there will be a risk for the ship that is going into the gate. If the energy configuration is not precise the ship may be destroyed instantly. Also, there is a very small possibility that the closing of the gate will cerate a subspace shockwave that might alter the Cochrane coefficient of this region and interfere with our warp capability, even rendering warp travel impossible in this area of space.

Thus, there might be implications for the development of the species that live in this system that should be considered, sir.

I agree Lt. Lagos. In fact, as we come closer to the system, I am detecting some very peculiar subspace structures. Perhaps the separation between ous space and theirs is thinner there.

*turns to Sanchez*

Captain, we are now 5 minutes from the system. No ships detected so far, though the activity of the gate is increasing exponentially.

Captain, with all due respect, though we are at a somewhat safe distance from the fluidic gate, it is logical to assume that the ship will be safer if we go to yellow alert.

Also, since the ships of species 8472 are made completely of organic material, their sensors may be a bit slower than ours. This way, if we use the Picard manouver we could get them confuse for a time long enough for us to strike at some vital point.

Also, I could use the time we stay on full stop to run some simulations of combat scenarios with Lt. Brooks on the holodeck, so that I can perform more efficiently on a real situation.

Captain, the probes around the planet are charging up and have a target lock on the Loxian ship as well. It will most likely be destroyed.

Mr Dalon, turn the ship back to the Species 8472 defence probe firing range. We are still with their warp frequency, and they will only fire at the Loxians!
Title: USS Evolution - Mission 3 : Revisiting Neelix
Post by: Species 8472 on May 20, 2003, 12:50:59 AM
You see, we have been deceived by this Species that now we know to be the Loxians. The problem is even worse considering that we cannot use our technology to open the quantum singularities to come to the "normal Space" near the Fluidic gate. And using it to come here is not as effective as our quantum singularities. And since we did not find a way to close it permanently, we deceided to colonize this part of your galaxy, to prevent that our domain is invaded again, by protecting the Fluidic Gate!

"In fact I have read something about those peacetalks between Janeway and Species 8472 as well. But they seemed inconclusive.  I think we need to be on our guard.
The radiation idea is a good one, but perhaps we should discuss this with Dr. Chemia first to see if it is practically possible. I don't want to bring my crew into unnecessary danger, of course.
But I'm wondering about one thing... Species 8472 left our universe alone until the Borg provoked them. Ever since, they have become hostile to everything inside this universe, and that is proven by what Mr. Neelix has told us about them attacking other planets and such. I really am not so sure we will get to talk with them in peace. Let's hope for the best.

*turns to Lt. Cmdr. Lagos*

Indeed, Lt. Commander. It is logical to assume that this was a Loxian ship. I have taken the liberty to look up the term Loxian on the ship's database these last minutes and I am now aware of the meaning of the term.

The nav readings are inaltered, though we are beginning to get into the influence of the dimensional rift. I can no longer say if there are ships near the gate, but I can say that the gate seems to be on a solar system, class VI star.

Post by: Randall Sanchez on April 07, 2003, 02:29:42 PM
"Loxians... I was hoping so badly I never had to hear that name again in my life! Last time we encountered them, we nearly didn't make it away in one piece, and indeed we are close to the borders of their space sector. Indeed, commander, go to red alert!
But I see no reason to delay our encounter any longer, so let's stay at warp until we've arrived. Let us hope we don't have to fight both Species 8472 and the Loxians!"

*Dr. Keilah contacts the captain over the comm system at that moment, to tell him the patient had died*

"You have my full approval, doctor, to examine the body. All information we can gain now, might be very useful! Sanchez out."

*He then looks around and sees that his science officers still havent reported on their stations as ordered*

"Captain Sanchez to Ensign Haluk and Lt. Cmdr. Wesley Crusher, report to the bridge at once!"

It is somehow complicated to explain. The phenomenon you call Fluidic Gate is a natural passage from your Space to our domain, the fluidic Space. Apperantly a alien race indigenous from this galaxy found it and invaded our realm. We did not tolerated the invasion, so we attacked them and they tried to escape. Some of them did manage to escape, but before doing so we  attacked them with a radiation that infacted their ship with a Virus, that marked their DNA, so we could come to this Galaxy and find them to retaliate. Apperantly they found out about the virus and somehow cured themselves and infected a series of Species from the region of Space you call Delta Quadrant. It was too late when we found out the mistake.

Johnathan and Randall reached Ten Forward and took a seat.

"Thanks for joining me for joining me sir," Johnathan said.  "I'm quite excited.  This is my first mission in the Delta quadrant ya know," Johnathan told Randall.

"Is that so?" Randall said as the waiter walked up.

"Can I take your orders?" the waiter asked.

"Yeah, I'll have some alfredo pasta, with red wine," Johnathan said.

"And you sir?" the waiter asked Randall.

Aye sir, maintaining heading and speed.

*taps commands on the console*

Captain, with the enhancement Lt. Lagos made to the nav sensors I can now see that there is a class M planet orbiting the star and both the debris and the fluidic gate are near it. Perhaps species 8472 decided to establish a colony there...

Sir, I'd like to say that  am also qualified to serve as a science officer so, if the current officers do cannot report to bridge I could rerout the science sensors to my console.

Post by: Zach Schmidt on April 26, 2003, 07:41:42 PM
Captain, may I?

All 8472s share the same thoughts when they are in fluidic space. This means now that they all have the same memories about encountering Voyager. This means that they should know who I am. I was going to suggest that a telepathic crewmember amplifiy me to the ship and allow me to talk to them. Its a little risky for me, but risk is part of the game.

"Yes Commander Chemia I do need some sleep and also Lt Tier could use some. We were both working on the scans :)"

*Hands over the logs*

"We discovered something rather strange with this man's DNA. It's changing every hour, I took 7 samples the last couple of hours and it seems he has been infected with some alien Virus. This Virus-RNA is not similar with that of Species 8472, after the first encounter. I looked it up in the medical records and found some interesting data.
It seems one of the crewmembers on the USS Voyager, by then name of Ensign Harry Kim, was infected with the Virus of specie 8472. The doctor onboard made a cure by using nanoprobes to infiltrate his bloodstream and those probes killed the virus.
This Talaxian man, has got some similar signs of the Virus, but he also has signs that are totaly different. The Ensign board Voyager was covered with a strange skin, which was produced by the Alien Virus.
The Talaxian man aboard, is totaly normal on the outside. But within he is certainly sick.
And what I was saying about the difference in the Virus RNA, this can be the work of Evolving. Species 8472 may be changing, due to the protal to our dimension. A serie of explanations is possible here...."

"I was also working on these samples to determine in what condition this man now is. Maybe we can help him, but then we have to find a different approach, cause we don't have nanoprobes to put in his bloodstream."

*Leaves his console and stands besides the Commander"

"I hope I wasn't to fast in my words...I sometimes go a little bit to fast..Ow and for I forget, the man has a sensor from sickbay in his neck. I thought this way we could monitor any strange reaction in his body."

"Mr. Dalon, I belive species 8472 does not need an oxigen atmophere to survive. A class M planet wouldn´t be needed for them to create a colony. If we were to make an assumption, I would say it might be a Loxian settlement, or someone else´s settlement, or even not a colony at all. If it is Loxian, that might give us an anwser, about where that debris and the warp signature came from."

Our current state of "truce" does not give you the right of demanding explanations, Federation. But since you asked so politely and helped us against the Loxians, I may tell you, that the attacks on the Delta Quadrant were a mistake, and they are no longer being made.

The planet is evacuated. We are ready to proceed. But before doing so, we would like to thank you Federation. And we will let the biological probes orbiting the planet here, but they will die in two days, so you have help with the Loxians in case they come back at this time.

*raises his left eyebrow*

Captain, while you were unconscious, we made contact with species 8472 and found out that they were attacking our space in an attmpet to drive the Loxians off their space. The gate was not created by species 8472 or anyone else. I was a natural phenomenon, as Lt. Cmdr. Lagos suspected.

Following this, Lt. Cmdr. Lagos convinced species 8472 to leave our space so that we could seal the gate while they were crossing it.

After that, we had a short skirmish with a Loxian fleet and returned to Avalon Station,  for we received a distress call from them, saying that they were under attack.

The sensors indicated that there were planets close to the station, though this is, based on the data I have so far, illogical.

Stuart sent the signal on all possible channels hoping that some sort of fleet could arrive to help the station.

OFF: So... where do I post that distress message? Other ships... and/or other divisions?

Captain, sensors indicate that the neutrino emissions from the fluidic gate have risen 250% in the last five minutes, sir. This might indicate that a ship or some other object is about to cross it.

I am also detecting several energy signatures comming from the planet near the gate... The logical interpretation is that the Loxian's attack has been detected and triggered a response from species 8472's sensor network.

*taps commands on the console. computer beeps*

Sir, the energy signatures are comming from an orbital network of organic probes. And the signatures match those of the weapons that destroyed the previous Loxian ship.

It is logical to assume that the probes are a defense system and that they were triggered either by the proximity of the Loxian ship, wich is closer to the planet than we are, or by it's weapons' fire.

Another thing corroborates with this conclusion, sir. There is a faint barionic trail that comes from a position close to the planet and ends at the debris field. As Lt. Cmdr. Lagos may confirm, a barionic trail is often the product of a leak of matter and anti-atter from a heavily damaged warp core.

Sir, the scans are complete.

It appears that some massive object has deliberately collided with the station. I have also detected some debris that would be consistent with asteroid remains, though this sector has no asteroid belt on any star chart.

*pauses for a moment*

Sir, I am detecting a small shuttlecraft near the station. It is loaded with explosives. It seems that Admiral Nocturnus was trying to deliver a blow to the enemies at the cost of his own life.

The needs of many outweight the needs of few or one. A very logical decision...

Yes, sir.

*works for some 50 minutes on his console*

Sir, it seems that your assumptions were right. There are indeed some five hundred members of species 8472 on the planet. They have established their presence on every major political unit of the planet.

The computer fineshed scanning their communications and computer network and found some fascinating data.

First of all, there are two sentient and technologically advanced species on this planet, that call themselves Mordal and Tel'knat. They do not seem hostile toward each other and there are some political units composed of a mixed species population. Their most advanced political unit is a matriarchal monarchy of Tel'knats. The planet is called Urm'gol by all it's inhabitants.

This monarchy has detected and documented the formation of the gate one and a half years ago. They had a probe monitoring the other class M planet of this system and sent it to the gate but it was lost into it. The data they collected is indeed quite impressive for their technological level... I'll use it to update our databanks and study it later, if our science officers don not show sir.

If they continue their research, it is likely that they will be capable of warp travel in two or three decades.

Their data on the other planet, which they call Urlat, is scarce, but they haven't found any signs of intelligent life there, just plants and insects.

No records have been found on species 8472, perhaps because of their agents operating on the planet.

The spacies 8472's probe is on a geosynchronous orbit over this political unit, named Marsili by it's population, and sends data to what appears to be an underwater base, located near the south polar cap. I cannot scan the base without risking being discovered. inf fact we were not detected by the probe because it's sensors are all focused on the planet, although it is logical to assume that there are other probes thet we have not yet detected on a similar mission and some other probes scanning for intruders on the system.

Sir, the Marsilii scientists are currently investigating an explosion that was spotted near the gate. That explosion must have been that of the presumed Loxian ship.

Very well... two things:
1. Make scans of the probe, get whatever information the sensors can give

Aye sir, rerouting science sensors.*enters commands on his console* I'll bring us closer to the second planet. 1/2 impulse.

It appears that there are sentient beings inhabiting the planet. I am reading some radio transmissions. They appear to be a pre-warp civilisation, medium concentrations of carbon monoxide and sulfur composites... industrial age. I will put us in orbit close to the planet's moon, so that we are not easily detected.

I'll have the computer monitor their communiactions searching for any reference of species 8472 or the fluidic gate.

*twenty minutes later*

Captain, they have a loose orbital satellite network, much like Earth around the year 2000, but no sensor array has detected our presence. There is a small space station orbiting their planet on a lower orbit, 8 crewmembers. They have an automated mining facility on the other side of the moon we are closer to. An automated shuttle just departed.

*a small pod rockets towards the planet*

Sir, I have just detected a probe orbiting the planet, it is not made by the local inhabitants... Its design is consistent with species 8472's, but it has not detected us so far...
