Title: Messenger problem solution
Post by: Vorak on June 30, 2005, 04:15:00 PM
Hello all Expansion Fleet members,

the past few days, many of you have probably noticed some malfunctions at the board, among which:

- Messengers not working correctly (messages disappearing before you can open them, ...)
- Number of topic replies not displayed correctly
- Certain posts not showing up correctly

We have been looking into this, and I believe that it was caused by the sudden error that suddenly appeared 2 days ago. This error was caused by the fact that Expansion Fleet had reached its server webspace limits (yes, we are still growing, it seems :) ). This caused the board faillure of writing to its database, and possibly corrupting certain parts of the database.

However, we have come with a solution for this problem:

1. If a topic appears corrupted, please email the direct topic URL to masterphoenix@skynet.be or, if you are a moderator of that forum, enter the topic and click the "rebuild this topic" link below the topic of relevance.

2. If the messenger causes problems (messages disappearing, nothing being saved in the sent folder when that option was selected, ...), please email your correct username to masterphoenix@skynet.be and DO NOT FORGET to backup any messages in your inbox, that you want to save. The only solution for this, is deleting your entire messenger contents - it will be completely empty, but working again.

So please email all these reports to masterphoenix@skynet.be and I will try and take care of them one by one as soon as possible - if this is not right away, please don't worry, we're working on it!

One important note, however, is that we are not 100% that the problems are indeed related, and therefore we cannot exclude the possibility that the problem might reoccur.
If these problems occur AGAIN, especially after they were fixed, please notify us of this IMMEDIATELY at masterphoenix@skynet.be with the necessary information (topic url, username, date and time the problem occured again, what was done to fix the problem at the same spot before, ...).

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for your understanding.
