well from what i've heard they look at your preformence wen your preformence is bad you'll be transferd to a les important starship but thats only from what ive heard

How we have been doing it as of late is like this. You are assigned a ship and that ship has a mission which usually has 3-4 parts. During the mission the captain evaluates the crew members and at the end of the mission and depending on crew size we will reccomend officers for promotions. Which have to be approved by the admiral.
As far as a less important starship that is not true here. For a long time we only had the endurance and then we hit a good stride for 4 months which led us to believe that we could support a second ship with the posters here. Therefore we comissioned the odyssey. But the older crew from the endurance quit posting except for myself and shawn. So after about 2 weeks of inactivity it was decided that the endurance would be shut down and only the odyessy , and the station would remain. The flyer is part of the station so I dont count it as seaporate.
The site is losing people and in a bad way. Aside from shawn who I believe is still active there is only the 3 of us and a second character i use on the ship. I am afraid if we dont find a crew and get something going we might lose the ship and possibly the site. I am going to try to continue the current mission with who we have and hope we can get more to join. You guys have any more questions feel free to ask. Thanks for being on board.

Well ectually captain, the only ships i served on, where cargoships. You know that is very boring.
We shipped much replicatorstuff, not that anyone wants to rob you because of that......*smiles*
But the oddesy is very cool, big also, nice crew
