Title: Stardust Entertainment Center
Post by: James Madison on January 14, 2006, 04:28:58 AM
"Purphaps for display, but as brilliant as Admiral Fisher designed her she's too big to ever fly again. Its the titanic of its time, if we do work on it it will be to make is presentable. Our plan is to use smaller more mobile ships no larger than an Intrepid. The entirely new ship designs were a wonder to see but i'm leaning now on more traditional things and less out of the extreme feats. Maybe we can have an old crew reunion for the Excalibur, your pub owner here happens to be the former OPs Chief of the Excalibur i think was his position. A good officer, Commander Cook whom i just refered to your division was Science chief and part of the construction scientists."

"Ah yes, I've just remembered. I was wanting to get with you some time soon in the Science department, I had an idea about the subspace telliscope we have on the station. I was thinking it might be possible to work with it to develop a new sensor technology. Using its ability to view into deep space, and perhaps work with it untill it can delve into things further than that. It would be a daunting task, probally more than one scientist to get it developed. But I had the thought, and I knew you were here, and gladly so, I knew that would be the type of challenge you might enjoy".

"Thank you".
He drinks it.
"Problems, but they're getting solved. Disarray has been the problem so far, I took it to myself to call someone in to take care  of it, since it seemed nobody else would. It would take to long to tell the whole thing though".

Cook only nods his head. "In a way... they might have an one up on us.... what if we loss power cells for our phasers? I mean anyone with a sword the would be able to take one of us down.... but I don't recall reading about the traveller's, I think I will have to reread their logs then... but at the moment... I am still waiting for Quarters to be assigned... I guess with all the confusion even I would probably forget about that... and trust me... can remember things that others are shocked that I remember. But yes, a civilization like that would indeed fasinate me as well, their culture, the way they train, along with the way they build... we all could learn from on and another... maybe I should try and built from scratch my own laser sword for fun... after all, as of right now... I have nothing better to do." Cook laughs once again, "Also... You are very well trained at tunning out distractions, Captain Smith is one that loves to be the center of attention at times, so Thank you for not paying any head." Of course Captain Smith stood up suddenly and jumped from the table and unto Commander Cook's shoulders a loud purr now comming from the feline.

We never fully researched it, Captain Moriartys account was very enlightening on what dwells in there, but we only did such investigations on just the one area".

"I can see that you are getting to the action part of the thing. I certainly have not been complaining, and rambling like this about what has happened, and only that. I have reviewed solutions, and acted already. Hence the Ambassador sitting across from you. If his report is considered valid, if his report shows the events, then we might find ourselves involved in more than what was figured when this situation was brought upon us".

"Ah.... a challenge finally, but yeah, I'll chew on the idea for a while, and try and work out some kinks but that would help ships, maybe try and fix some of the sensor problems with that blasted Nebula... nasty people live in that thing, bent on destroying one another... reminds me of Kirk's mission with those people that were black on one side, and white on the other. Really, anything to help us scan that area and not get too close will suite me fine." It seems that Cook was indeed affected by that experiance.

He raised his glass

"We all have our war stories. Both me and Tom were in command at the time of the Battle of Deep Space 20 between the Ferengi and Starfleet. The Interceptor was a fine ship that never saw the glory it was intended for. Nor will it ever, My own wish is to, when and if Nova is returned to build to the old station an Engineering museum of sorts. Showcasing the Interceptor, the Excalibur and other ships sent by other divisions of either engineering or historical value. In my opinion every divisions ship should be put up along with the story of its missions and crew from day one to its last run."

He took the drink and began to relax.
"Thank you for the offer, but I probally would not be a responsible person to watch over him".
He then began talking about the alliance.
"Well, just as you were assigned here, we were attacked by another force. That sets up much of the frustration. A very large ship, with many abilities in terms of weapons and combat. Nothing was told about them untill they got here, to where there was an objective response to them and what some of the things that might happen would be. To cut down the politics, they ended up discovering thier enemy, being as strong as they, had followed them to our outpost here. They intercepted, and we were not attacked after an attack recently. They returned and are here now, with dead, injured, and destroyed. They totally destroyed thier own enemy forces, but are not not so superior as they were when they arrived. This was bittersweet, death is never good, but the amount of size they lost in the major combat has put a clamp over the debates that they might be a danger. So I think things might turn out well with that".

Cook nods his head, "I bet it is very stressfull," He nods his head. "If you want... you can borrow Captain Smith for a time.... he is great at removing Stress when he is around.... I guess that is something else about cats that I find fasinating. They are able to absorb it seem the stress and not show any themselves." Cook then stops talking realizing that he was rambling and instead began to put his mind to work on the problem... "Can you tell me more of this new alliance? I must say... being in that Nebula and almost right after that... well.... I had pressing matters on Earth. So I have been out of the loop for a while." Cook then stops talking once agian.

Meanwhile Captain Smith had been looking for a way to jump into the Admiral's lap, being a feline, and one that likes comandeering laps... well durring this entire time he had been studying for a way, but he gives up and instead jumps onto the table and sat on the table and stare at the Admiral unblinking, looking like an Egyptian Cat Statue. Commander Cook couldn't help but chuckle at the antics of the cat.... when a Cat wanted to do something... their was nothing anyone could really do about it, they would get their way, sooner or later.

Padd in hand, Davis replicated himself a bowl of chili topped with
shredded cheddar on top and made his way to an unoccupied corner table.
Although the room was fairly full, there was very little conversation.
Not surprising, as most of the crew had met for the first time only days
ago.

Had it really only been a matter of days since the station got started
It seemed like an eternity.  Davis hoped that Frontier's  crew
could identify the culprit quickly, because chances were the
USS Rivendell would be called on to deal justice. He very much wanted to be a
part of that.

The chili was still a little too hot to eat, so Davis pushed it aside
and concentrated on his padd. This was the first time in nearly a week
he'd had a chance to work on the masking system. After only a minute or
two of studying his calculations, he hit the same wall he'd been stuck
behind for weeks. With an exasperated sigh, he set the padd down and
tried the chili again.  Still too hot..

"Mind if I join you, Captain?"

Davis looked up to see Admiral Vincent Garhart, the Division Xo.
He'd met him briefly this morning in Main Ops, but they
hadn't had a chance to talk for long. There wasn't anywhere else for him
to sit, so Davis gestured to the seat across from him.

He smiled.
"Yes, it would be. Admiral Fisher would have it disected if he were here I would bet. When I first saw the thing I instantly associated it with the Traveller that was written in the USS Voyagers logs. A large ship, with species inside who went about weaponry in a slightly primitive way. Did you know they carried sword like weapons? I am always fascinated with species with such technology, that still find primitive armor and weaponry practical".

But i think some people think he was wrong. But i will be honest, things were not going well here. And still arn't really. It lacked any order. And people did as they pleased. I think people dislike the actions Tom took because it put a limit on things that created chaos."

Cook sees the admirals and walks up to them, face looking pale still, but he smiles warmly as he can and asks a question, "May I sit with you admirals? Cook laughs at this, "As you see, I have a feline that needs Quarters, can't take him much anywhere last time I was on a ship or station, he was confined to quarters, the lounge, and holodecks, off limits were the bridge, science department, and most other areas.... which reminds me, what are you areas that would be off limits to this feline?" He took a sip of his drink and relaxed some.
"The entire thing caused tension without a doubt. I think in the end much of what was said went with little to no consideration. If that would be the case, it might perhaps be between starfleet and Admiral Ransom. But things are now set into place for an ending to the puddle that was spilt".
He smiled.
"My opinion of it at least is no secret. But I would be highly incompetent if I made actions on that, yet another reason why I consulted the good ambassador here. And hopefully with his consultation at headquarters of yet another neutral voice it will be a due process and a just one. The investigation can be toned down some though probally, ambassador. The Rivendell is expected back very soon as I have said earlier. Along with that, what buisness on this station shall be done still".
He paused, as if thinking for a moment, and returned to speaking.
"Another situation perhaps worthy of your knowledge, Mr. Garhart. I am a hair close to dismissing Commodore Junior Grade Nesbitt from this facility. Cooporation on his part is at a low point. Apparently, another move by our great commanding officer has assigned an officer of that rank, but a postion higher than most in the division. To say the least, I do not recognize it while I have the responsibility to manage this station, with a security overseer who is interfering with my work and intentions with this station. I have all of the intentions in the world to reprimand him myself, considering I know my place, and I am not in the postion to have to go crying to another officer to do it for me".

My report will go right to Admiral Montrell for JAG review. As  i stated before. Due to lack of JAG officers which would be doing this rather than me, i am taking it upon myself to conduct a diplomatic investigation as this is a diplomatic affair. I will read to you the charges i have only so far. First, the conducting and establishing of trade without authorization from the Fleet Embassy. And without an Ambassador. Second, the exchange of Starfleet personnel which is a general no-no. We simply don't submit officers to train with any race. Even ones we are friendly with. The things which i reason to that Ft. Admiral Richard Ransom has ordered and taken on are in direct violation of Diplomatic Regulation. That is only a small part of my report. I have yet to get more information from crew. Keep in mind i am a neutral party. My job here is to inturrpret the evidence before me."

"I agree this matter has caused increased tension on this station.  All that I would ask is that it be taken under consideration that Admiral Ransom attempted to protect this division the best he could with the information he was given.  That is an amerable trait that should not go unnoticed.
Also that my leave time with Andros and his people was my attempt to provide a solution to all sides problems without giving them the Kitchen sink as it where.

As for Mr. Nesbitt. In a few days I will be acting commander of this division and I will assist in refocusing his talents to better serve you and your station Admiral.

Finally, in light of all of our losses lately I do not believe that the door should be closed on Andros.  That would be a very grave mistake.  We are on the edge of the Frontier far from any other federation assistance.

"I am the only Ambassador in Expansion Fleet at this time. And lead all diplomatic affairs. And my professional decision is that all relations are to be suspended pending a formal hearing under me and a JAG council. That is now in effect. Consider it a breach to conduct business with this Andros and his people until then. To the evidence as of yet i have drawn to the conclusion that Admiral Ransom did act against diplomatic regulation, however meant no harm to the Federation and had no knowledge of what the aliens were going to do. The only issue he will be brought forth to speak on will be that of the forming a short alliance or pact with the Chronasians. Penaltys will vary. The max being a demotion more likley to Admiral. and the less being a mark on the record. Again, i am no JAG Magistrate. But this is my guess. However it is no small charge either. "First to answer your question Tom, yes I accepted that explination from him.  He wasn't lying and I saw sean reprimanded for his actions.  But, I will conceed that the actions where I mistake that gave a very bad impression.

Second to you Mr. Gordon, no I was not forced to train with Andros.  During our discussion as a command staff it was stated by Mr. Hobson that we should not give them everything or they would come to expect it which I whole heartly agree with.
However I believed at the time that an alliance with Andros and his people was a very good idea.
I still believe that however I think that it has spiraled out of control very fast.  It is my opinion that we should conduct "trade" talks with Andros's people that will be mutually benifical for each party.

As for your next question Mr. Gordon, Andros's people have a highly advanced social structure set up from their olden days and the nessesity to survive that heads around Andros himself.  He seems to be a reluctant leader, meaning that he wants to protect his people similar to you Tom but will not be there king.  There species is quite advanced in both technolgy, telipathic, and Tellikanisis.

Any more questions or further clarifications needed gentlemen?"

He picked the padd up which he had been observing originally. He held it in only his view, very sure not to show its content to any of the other officers.
"If it were totally up to me, I would consider the alliance over without the chance of a second chance. But I do not think it is, although I will do everything to see it not happen. I suppose you are right that we might as well get to our work, since we are accomplishing so much while here talking. I will part this small meeting of sorts with the statement, that regardless of what we need, we do not need enough to continue or to restart an alliance or trade with the Chronasians. We need only peace (as I proposed originally) with no material involvment. We all here know that mistrusting things took place, with no clear provokation on our part. "I wouldn't go to big, big ships spread crew thin. To avoid another lack of officers we must keep them packed in one place. Focus on one ship or station and flow with other divisions, for example if Avalon was trying to crew a new ship, it would not be wise to try to crew one at the same time. I do see things picking up though. We all do our part to get things going. I think this base is doing very well. I would love to see more and more come to it until its bursting at the seams."

"It has been to me, personally, the most fascinating part of the Expansion Sector of the Delta Quadrant. The Van'Gu cluster contains two planets, one, Neyo Prime. Another, which I am not well learned on. We sent in two ships into that area, first, the USS Venture under Marcus Brodie, and then the Excalibur under Matthew Moriarty. The mystery of it is, it is difficult to study it without physically entering it. However, when you enter it, you loose all long range communications, sensors are blocked for a distance. It really takes you into an old fashioned mode which leaves everyone to show thier best".

I'm in hope to do the best i can here to regain the old job. If only Gary were still around. It is interesting to look around now after everythings filtered out and see were all the old crew is. Just yesterday i recieved word from the old Science officer Commander Cook. A man i've known to work on the big projects of our time. His name is on the Excalibur's Plaque. Command really must find a way to reinstate these great officers."

"It is true. The Unity entered with the Excalibur, they were sent to explore the unexplored planet, Neyo Prime. They found that it did indeed carry life, and life more advanced than ours. But it was partitioned, it had a side of its species which was for peace, government. Another with a standpoint of supreme rule by force. Long story short, the two ships became stuck in the middle of a planetary war. They were...well,..forced, to assist the side for peace. The reports I was given stated the people of the planet were very blunt. They did not practice diplomacy, what they wanted they got, and had no other understanding. It was interesting in that way. It brings up more, is that a flaw of thier own, or is it something they have developed as one of the most powerfull weapons".

Then after, the files were sent back to us. The joke is on us, some of what was suspected has happened, as was brought up in the meetings. Thier alliance was accepted an instant after these doubts were brought up, with little to show for it".
He paused.
"..I have called in an Ambassador from headquarters. He is beginning an investigation, as am I with him. He will conduct a report, and if I am not mistaken, submit it to the JAG office on his return to his home base. If the guidelines fall into place, this fickled alliance as it has been will be no more".

The first things I brought up were examples of that. What we had was a chance for intimidation, that would lead to fear, fear to lack of hesitation, that to loss of control.
