Sounds reasonable. Subforums in each ship for rping will help alot.
Lol Tom makes a better point, forums can be complex sometimes. And there's a chance that some sub-forums might not be used, so.. I think we can just post new topics for now.
OK, I couldn't find a suggestions topic anywhere, so I'm posting a new one here.
Is there any chance, either in the DATABASES section, or in a similarly labeled sub-forum in each of the Ships' forums, to have a constantly updated, but brief history of each ship? e.g the quick version of the story of each mission it had been on ect, and maybe an up-to-date crew roster for just that ship? To save time searching through lots of long posts.
Also, an idea that might help keep members active. I know on some of the ships I have seen topics such as mess hall, sick bay, ect, but could it be possible to have, maybe in a sub-forum again, topics for each of the ships main areas (bridge, mess hall, sick bay, holodeck, ect) and one for generalised actions (eg in and about the corridors, in quarters ect)? This would mean that people would have somewhere to post when either a) the ship is not involved in a mission, or b) when their particular character is not actively involved in a mission at that time. It would give them a chance to RP in these situations, and to interact more with the other crew members.
Just my thoughts.

It may seem helpful and useful for you guys but for the administrators its a pain. It would take a along time to archive a mission, as EF does to publish in their yearbook, and cleaning up a forum would take some time instead of having only one topic to clean up. And by adding sub forums for each department on each ship would mean more places and more posts one would have to go through to find information. Not to mention the limited bandwidth EF has so if we make the Boards bigger then thats more Bandwidth being used and that means EF will run slower and it will increase the chance of a crash or something. lol Sorry for getting all technical. But I do like the idea about Keeping the Ships history posted and the current crew on board.
Keeping everything in one thread works the best. Although it mixes all the different locations into one, it's not too hard. A header telling the location, or a simple "Meanwhile, in the mess hall..." works fine. Even having everything spread among threads and not just subforums is still hard. Then to archive a mission, we need to save six different threads, rather than just one. A few out-of-character threads is fine, like info on the ship, general mission discussion, or suggestions are fine, but anything in-character should stay in a mission thread.
