Sir, as I read things, the only way to deal with this threat is to completely shut down power...and I am not certain that even that will work. Drawing it toward another energy source...a singularity...will only make it stronger. Firing at it will only make it stronger. We could shut down power and...perhaps...save ourselves. But we would doom other ships left in the fight. I am afraid that I have no answers.

OFF: Kobayashi Maru anyone? lol

Sir, that cloud is draining the station of power. We must do something. Phasers and torpedos might make it stronger, but we can move and Starphoenix cannot. If we fire all weapons, and draw the cloud's attention to us, we might be able to lure it away from the station, and buy them some time.

Mr. Sagan, reporting. Sorry to be late, but I was working in my quarters.

Sir, it seems that Starphoenix is down to minimal power. They may have cut power on purpose, or that cloud may have taken it. It is difficult to tell from here, but, judging from the sudden decline, logic would dictate that that they cut power themselves as a defense. Regardless, we have lost contact with the station.

OFF: See Parker's posts in Ops...they shut down the power.

Sagan looks up from his board.

Unusually dense matter, sir? Could it pose a navigational hazard?

Ops reporting. My boards read clear. No problems detected.

Damage control teams to the armory. We have apparently had a "mishap."

Sir, I'm reading another ship entering the area. It appears to be the USS Evolution from Avalon Division.

OFF: Gotcha. I thought everything was ready back at the station because the attack had been posted, but guess I was wrong. Thanks for clearing that up. http://expansionfleet.sparks.priorweb.be/ikonboard/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

ON: Confirming Ms. Hawkins scans, sir. The catalpult appears to be free of hostiles for the moment. It should be safe to beam over there and attempt to repair it.

Please return to the Starphoenix base immediately.. we have reason to believe we will be coming under attack.... We do not know who the enemy will be or what it is.. but we receieved a strange transmission and our extincts are telling us not to ignore this...  Please hurry!

I am picking up nothing on my scans, sir. The ship appears to be harmless, but its configuration is like nothing I've ever seen...hardly surprising, given that we're entering uncharted space.

Fascinating, Mr. Sulu. We could "fight fire with fire." It might not destroy the cloud, but it would wound it. I suggest that we go forward with this plan and equip more than one torpedo with the energy-absorber technology.

OFF: Sorry, Harf, but didn't we already receive a recall message from them a while ago? I thought that was why the landing party had to beam up so quickly. If so, we should be on our way.

Sir, scans are faint, but my readings indicate that something is attacking Starphoenix base. I suggest we return to Dantor with all possible speed. The ship we just encountered seems to have nothing to do with the assault on Starphoenix. It is, perhaps, a decoy intended to lure us away from the real threat.
