"I fought against the Heraan on Avalon Station, sir. They are tough opponents, and some of their elite warriors are psionicly gifted and fight with energy blades. It's my opinion that those specific elites can only be engaged effectively by Gallifreyans, sir."

Raynor strode into the briefing room, with a salute for the new general at the ready. "Captain Raynor, reporting for duty, Col... I mean General. Congratulations on your recent promotion, sir."

"No. It's not a phaser/ballistic hybrid, if that's what you mean. But it is useful in combat, and can be slung on one's back when the phaser rifle is in use."

As the alert comes through, Raynor and Balkazar rush out of the room.

Jim eyes the droids carefully, with the exception of Comm One. He had heard of Comm One, and his exploits on Dantor during the awakening of the "native population", as well as serving dutifully as the first officer of a Starfleet ship for some time. Comm One had earned his respect.

Captain Raynor enters the briefing room, followed closely by Major Keller. Both take their seats next to one another on a side of the table.

(OFF: Assume this is before the red alert.)

"I've got a little to add to that, if I may, General? Colonel Balkazar, it will also answer your question. In my last encounter with the Heraan, I noticed what has been said, energy weapons completely ineffective against the Heraani armor. Well, I may have found a way around that."

Raynor removes a rifle from his pack and tosses it to Powell.

"I call it the http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a318/admiralkarelia/AssaultRifle.jpg" target="_blank">MA-5B Ballistic Assault Rifle. It'll weaken the Heraani shields without any of the side effects of energy weapons. The design's based somewhat off the Type III Phaser Rifle, mostly in the stock and butt area. It's also got a status display with ammo count and compass on the raised scope area. Speaking of scopes, I've designed it to tie into the HUD eyepieces on our helmets, so you can get ammo count and a digital zoom if you'd like. Just like the Type III."

Raynor pulls out a magazine for it and removes a single shell.

"Only it fires these 7.62 millimeter rounds, instead of energy blasts."

(OFF: Not yet, you're not a Lt. Colonel, Balkazar. If you are to become one, it would be at this meeting, but not before.)

"If I may ask, Generals, what's all this about?"

(OFF: Doesn't matter. Raynor's thoughts are his own, and having thoughts is not grounds for punishment or surveillance, no matter if you can read them or not.)

(OFF: Newberry still is in command, just not alone anymore. I find it hard to believe you want to quit because you were asked to correct a clerical mistake in your rank. Powell was assigned by High Command with Starphoenix's best interests in mind, due to the confusion as of late with the sub-division.)

(OFF: For reference, it's spelled "Heraan", not "Heeran".)

Raynor scoffs quietly. "I'm pretty sure just about everything is more powerful than an Intrepid-class."

"When was that, General Brown? I don't remember reading reports on that."

"With all due respect, sir, this Captain believes it would have been prudent to inform us of this."

Jim stares right at Alexia as she tells him to disarm.

"Listen here! I will not disarm by your will, only the direct orders of my commanding officers! As long as the General abides your presence, so shall I! But do not expect an officer of the Starfleet Marine Corps to disarm at your word!"

"No, sir, other than that I'm curious when I will get my next chance to shoot at the lanky bastards."

"General, I'd also like to volunteer to lead a fighter squadron. I've had extensive experience in both the Peregrine and Pyro class fighters.

"HK47, you are on Federation soil, you are under the jurisdiction of the United Federation of Planets! If you deny that fact, then you will be asked to leave immediately. If you resist, you will find yourself on the recieving end of the phaser rifles of 3,500 Starfleet Marines. Even you cannot hope to stand against that."

Alexia enters, and Jim stands, his hand on his phaser.

"DAMN IT! You can't just walk in here! This is sovereign territory of the Federation, and you wil observe proper procedure for guests and diplomats, or be deported from Federation space permanently!"
