Ensign Larson was ready to go, but wanted to play by the book.
"Understood, I am on my way to the mess hall as soon as I get clearance to leave my duty station, Larson out"

He tapped the badge again.
"Larson to bridge. Request permission to vacate my duty station and assist the medical team. They seem to have there hands full"

The thought of dealing with wounded was already making him queezey, But it was time to step up and face the fear that had been holding him back for so long.....

=^= Bridge to larson, if those powersurges are staying within safe marges, l think it is ok for you to help in sickbay...
But be prepared to get back to your station ASAP when needed. It is not because our commanding officers have other things on their minds, that we can act on our own impulse. But for now, l think your help is more needed in sickbay.=^=

"l'll monitor the powersupplies from here, sir." Mimas explained to the gazing commander...
"They seem to be reaching an end anyway"

Meanwhile he repeated the helms reports

"course plotted, engaging warp in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, warpdrive activated."

The stars streched out to lightening stripes, as a massive fireworks explosion and USS Concordia diving into the middle of it...

l will allways love that sight, Mimas thought to himself...

"Thats all I needed to here" Larson thought to him self

He reached into the storage locker near his work station and grabed a medkit and staped on a medical tricorder that was located next to the kit. He swiftly made his way to the door.

"I can't believe I am in a hurry to do this!",He said to the turbolift door as it slid open.

"Deck two" He he bellowed like Klingon warrior. He was tring to work up enough nerve to deal with the situation without having to hold on to somthing at all times to keep from passing out.

He took a few deep breaths

"I can do this!"
"I can do this!"

The door slid open, and there it was in front of him. Except it was'nt a nightmare or a holodeck simulation

This was for real..........

A look of shock and worry creased across his features as he uncontrollably runs down the corridor throwing crewmen everywhere till he suddenly stopped and fell to the ground twitching

"What the......." the ensign said in disbelief as she got up from her prone position from being thrown.

Larson was helping a security officer to his feet when the call came. He had just closed a huge gash on his right thigh. There had been alot of blood, eventhough the wound had not been deep. He delt with it better than he thought he would. He just keep going over the training in his mind, all of which he remembered almost photographicly , and taking deep breaths. He always aced the written stuff, but almost always passed out in the simulations. The only ones left were crewmen with bumps and bruises that needed to be cleared for duty when sickbay was a little less busy.

He tapped his com badge"Larson to O'Maninn we are stable here. Are you to busy to make a house call? I can ascess Lt. Urbans condition and report back to you"

Brackman was initially alarmed when Urban began his rampage but that alarm turned to surprise and then concern at Urban's sudden collapse. None of the crewmembers that Urban threw appeared to have any serious injuries, though Brackman noticed one was holding her arm to her chest and another had a subtle limp. The ensign next to Urban seemed to be trying to calm him down, with no success.

Brackman decided not to approach the fallen Urban, knowing there was nothing he could really do to help, as medical assistance has already been called and he was being watched over by the small crowd that had gathered.

O'Mannin shook his head when the word that another officer was down reached him. He sighed and pondered for a moment how he could be in two places at one.
Then another voice wanted to know if he could handle the emergency and the thought for a fleeting moment before responded. To be truthful he was deeply concerned about the patient he currently had and being he had received the unpleasant gifts of the boarding part he would need constant monitoring.

Daniel sighed when he saw one of the crew members bringing another wounded officer into the infirmary. Still he could not leave his unconscious colleague unattended. He reached for his com badge once again, "Ensign O'Mannin to Larson, I would appreciate it sir, Doctor David is still not present and I have a patient requiring my attention here. If you need anything let me know."

A bead of sweat began to form on his forehead as the stress level climbed upwards with each new message of need. He was grateful for the help he was receiving but still, without his senior officer he was handling one fire after another on his own.

With the Emergency Medical Hologram in the Mess Hall that freed him to be at sickbay until those critically injured could be brought to him. This plan would have worked if it hand not been for the unexpected need arising with the Chief of security.

Once again the computer stated a drop in oxygen levels and Daniel dived in to correct it, "Common you can do it," he muttered and glanced over at the new arrivals. It seemed that more had gone wrong than just a Borg boarding party and the rattling of the ship. With the chief of security down it seemed logical to the Betazoid that there was another problem beginning to surface. The thought was far from comforting.

He nodded towards the science officer that had just came in with another flesh wound and stated, "I'll be with you in a moment sir," and examined his instrumentation once more before briskly walking over to the new guest. "No," he said in as friendly a voice as he could manage, "lets take a look at you."

Russ was cleaning off the tables that weren't occupied, with a smile on his face. A shift was about to start and a few people in turqoise stood up to leave. One walked over to him and told him how great his Hub was. The way Hilliard thought about it, it was not a pub or bar or lounge just a Hub. It was those thoughts, those odd, simple ones that made him warm like a cup of Earth's peppermint tea. Two people walking in caught his attention, and when he looked over it was a father and son. He strode lightly over to them and said his usual 'welcome to the Hub' that he did with all people that first came in and offered them a seat.

Alan felt frustrated. He had been at his post through it all. The Borg attack, the aftermath, the reports of the wounded being moved from the mess hall back to sic bay, but no one asked him to act. He did as he was told, he maned his duty station in the lab, and ran his diagnostics just like he was ordered to do. He had a ray of hope when he noticed the small power surge in the secondary core. He even broke the chain of command and breached protocall at the same time when notified the Bridge, instead of his commanding officer about the surge. He felt like he needed to be noticed and involved, even if it ment being repremanded for breaking regulations. It seemed that no one cared about him. He was just the lowly Ensign left in the lab , to clean up the mess if a phaser blast jarred the ship and knocked some test equipment off a shelf . "I did'nt sign up for duty on the only starship at the edge of the galaxy to moniter a computer system that pretty much can take care of it self" he thought to himself. "If they don't care about my watchful eye on the computer, I guess I just have to put myself where the action is" he whispered out loud, even though no one was there to hear him. "I don't believe I am going to do this " He shouted to no one. His hand hovered over his com badge, while he thought about how much the manditory medical trianing that almost got him booted from the acadamy bothered him. He nearly vomited everytime he saw blood, even though he knew the medical emergencies he suffered in his school days were only holodeck simulations. "Here we go!!!" he screamed
Ensign Larson tapped his com badge.
"Larson to Dr. David, or any medical staff. Do you require assistance?"

Karrath painstakingly forced himself into the military 'at ease' position, staring blankly at the wall, as he attempted to reel his temper in. Right now, he would like nothing more than to turn that thing which was trying to turn most of his life upside-down into scrap metal, but he wasn't in the resistance anymore. He wasn't in the Bajoran militia anymore. He was Starfleet. He needed to act more professionally. And he usually did. He couldn't actually remember a time where he had been like this around a non-Cardassian before. This wasn't him.

"I would appreciate an investigation, Sir." he said woodenly. He didn't think he could manage his usual jovial attitude so soon.

Shepard stood from his seat. "Helm, plot a course to Starbase 384 and engage at warp six. Commander Reid, you have the bridge. I'm going to go check on our resident AI personally." The commander rounded the central guard-rail and stepped into the turbolift. The computer chimed, acknowledging his presence. "Deck 11, engineering," he said, and the turbolift car began to move downwards toward it's destination.

The turbolift eventually reached Deck 11 and the doors slid open. Shepard stepped out and made his way around the nearest corner, seeing the double doors to Engineering further down the corridor. He stepped through the doors, and found Lieutenant Dwight, who had just returned a few minutes ago. "Lieutenant," he called out, getting the chief engineer's attention. "How is the AI holding up?"

Danial O'Mannin - Sickbay

Daniel sighed as he realized the patient had stabilized and he could turn his attention elsewhere at least for the moment.

"Now where is Dr. David," he muttered glancing about again.

The patients neural activity was still reduced but his breathing and heart rate were steady. Knowing what had worked in the past for those infected with the Borg's "special virus" he began thinking of what actions might be best to take.

The medical officers thought were brought to the incoming message, an offer of assistance and he let a faint smile cross his face.

"Ensign O'Mannin here," he offered as he tapped his communication badge, "we will need assistance getting the wounded from the mess hall to sickbay. We need gurneys to move them and help getting them here."

Taking the wounded officer in his arms he waited, come on he though as impatience grew.

Then a moment later he was standing in sickbay. Once again, he gathered his thoughts and suppressed his senses. O'Mannin quickly carried the man to the nearest biobed and laid him gently on the soft surface. Quickly he set the biofunction monitor to the appropriate settings. Silently he cursed that the display had not been upgraded to the Okudagram found on larger federation vessels. The information would be sufficient but harder for him to interpret and that was what irritated him.

"Computer activate voice response sequences for biofunction monitors," he ordered then glanced about looking for the only other truly qualified staff member.

"Where is Doctor David," he snapped under his breath.

"Oxygen intake down to eighty percent," the computers unemotional voice declared as if the fact was insignificant. Daniel rushed and placed the pulmonary support unit in place and activated it.

"Come on man you can make it," he said, this time in a much louder voice and looked about again for his superior officer.

(OOC: Well I have been doing some research and have discovered I have made a serious blunder. Starships of this size typically only have two Medical personnel, the CMO and the Assistant. There is the Emergency Medical Hologram true but I have been NPCing crewmembers that do not or should not exist. If you wish I shall edit my posts and make them crew members from other departments that have some medical training. I apologize for my oversite.

Heading into the turbolift, Brackman replied, "You are welcome to join use, Mr. Dwight. My shuttle is actually roughly two decades more advanced than the Soveriegn class, Mr. Urban. Some features of my shuttle are planned to be implemented some time in the future on future ships, others have been decided to be left out in favor of things we are more familiar with. It is technically the property of the Federation Council, but it is on indefinite loan to me."

The turbolift soon stopped and the trio exited the turbolift. As they approached the security team by the shuttlebay doors, Brackman added, "The shuttle served as a test bed vehicle for many experimental technologies and is in fact itself a prototype for a future class of shuttles. Of course, that means many current features are going to be scrapped in favor of more conventional ones. It has an expected lifespan of 75 years before it would be decommissioned."

The group arrived outside the shuttlebay. Brackman nodded at the security guards and waited for Urban to say something to them.

"I dont care. My security team and I will be inside the shuttle bay while your making your repairs just incase." Urban said with a sneer for this scientist. "Dwight, I am sorry but you arent authorized to enter the shuttlebay. I am not going to let this targ out of my sight till he leaves this ship." Urban added with a continous sneer.

He was frustrated at not getting to see a test bed ship, or shuttle, his dream would have to wait for time than. "Maybe I can see this thing launched, I always am curious on working with future and experimental tech."

With those words he stepped back into the turbo lift and waited for the other two to leave the lift.

Brackman raised his eyebrows, "Actually, Mr. Dwight, since I'm sure you've already looked over the scans of the shuttle's exterior, it would be perfectly alright for you to join us. I'm sure you could do some repairs to the exterior also. The shuttle uses the same hull as any other vessel in the Federation. Well, it's slightly denser, but as long as you don't know how, I don't think it would be a problem. At the moment, only minor repairs can be conducted until your superiors and I can figure out where major equipment will be coming from."

Brackman ignored Urban's obvious disgust with him and decided that that was his overall reaction to everyone, but that Urban had decided to try and focus his energies on Brackman. Whether it be some grudge against scientists or just a case of hostility to the elderly, Brackman didn't know or really care. He was certain that Urban wouldn't kill him since there was nothing to gain and a lot to lose.

~Besides,~ Brackman thought to himself, ~The man is suffering from a case of acute paranoia. He probably thinks he's protecting himself.~

The core has stablized at 107.6%."

Pressing a button on the console, Brackman said =/\= Engineering to the Bridge, the transfer has been successful. The shuttle can now be moved safely and we can leave right after it is in the shuttlebay and we are clear of the asteroid field. =/\=

"Good," Shepard said. "We'll be leaving momentarily. Bridge out." Shepard closed the comm and turned to the operations officer. "Transport the shuttle into our hangar," he ordered. "Helm, as soon as the shuttle is aboard, set course back to Starbase 384."

He then looked at the core, "Let's keep this core cooled down, over heating will just make it go faster... if we can keep the gel packs cooled down we can make it last maybe ten more minutes, I want to milk as much time as we can."

The engineers around him only nodded before he walked over to Urban and the scientist. "Do you mind if I come along? I have been meaning to go to cargo bay two myself, I want to make sure we don't have any rodents of any kind from our shipment... they can do nasty things to my ship's internals."

Saul seriously wanted to put a phaser shot through the dog's head. For some reason it kept on stating that pointing a phaser at it was a violation of the Prime Directive - which Saul knew stated that "members of Starfleet are not to interfere in the internal affairs of another species, especially the natural development of pre-warp civilizations, either by direct intervention, or technological revelation" and had nothing to do with pointing a weapon at a machine, whether it claimed to be an AI or not.

He also wanted to scream at it that simply showing the Captain some files - which could afterall be forged - was not proof as to it's intelligence, design or the integrity of the data it apparently contained.

All this, however, he did not do. Glancing at the Captain, he slowly lowered his phaser, and stared at the machine, deciding it wasn't worth getting thrown in the brig for.

There was no time for his algorithm, which was almost never worked on when he was on duty. There was nothing notable happening with the shuttle or the core, but he would continue to monitor until the Concordia reached Vernemeton.

He glanced at the computer core, which stretched a couple of decks below, before looking at Dwight and added, "Also, just something I thought I should bring up again - the moment QAI's operations are transferred, the core's operating capacity will exceed 100%, even while he is in sleep mode. Fortunately, in sleep mode, it is only somewhat above 100%, perhaps 108% or so, so instead of an instant meltdown, the core will slowly fry itself to a crisp. QAI will give me an estimation on how long the core will last right after he transfers himself over and will enter sleep mode immediately after, so expect a slight spike in operation levels before it levels out."

Daniel nodded, "Yes sir," he said, "I can't say I trust them either."

He bent down on one knee and began to examine the ensign closest to him looking for visible signs the male Ensign had been injured in the attack.

His scanner picked up a decrease in brain activity and the presence of something 'foreign' in the blood stream. Looking closer the Betazoid could see a red line trickling down the officer's neck and down his back changing his collar from a golden yellow to a deep crimson red. On the human's neck were two small holes as if pins had been inserted.

Borg assimilation marks, he thought and sighed with the realization.

Getting rid of the nanophites was not an easy chore. Numerous methods had been devised but none without complications. Adding to the severity of the Engineering officers condition was the head wound that further jeopardized his health.

There was one advantage and it had not escaped Daniel's notice was that a drop in neural activity was one way to thwart the assimilation process. This had been done before but by more controlled means, not by injury.

O'Mannin placed the neuro stimulator into its proper position and then looked up at the superior officer that had addressed him, "Sir, how long before we can get back to sic bay?"

There was a sense of urgency in his voice as he asked the question and he hope the answer would reveal they could return soon. To be honest, the mess hall was far from equipped to handle such injuries and the young medical officer was not going to just stand by without giving the best possible aid to his wounded comrade.

Dwight looked up at the security chief and then that man that he must assumed to be the Doctor of this new AI talked to him.

"It will do what?" Dwight only shook his head. "I got a few spare memory space ingrames, I am guessing it will be caused by too much power and processing speed? That could be easily modified, see that large alcove? That is a machine grade replicator, I'll just replicate a few more nods, it may look like a tube farm for the moment, but I assure you, we can jirry rig something to make the process slow down, I am sure we can make sure we can make the speed so it only takes 100% Or if it is memory space... I assure you, as the Chief Engineer, I will make sure that he is as snug as a bug in a rug." He blinked and shook his head. "Sorry, my grandmother use to say that a lot... very old Earth saying."

He moved over so the Doctor could see his work. "I have already added over two thousand kilowades of data for the core to handle, I assure you, we have some of the best people that we have on the ship working on this."

He stopped as a man came up with a new report. "That changes some things." He said to himself... "I am afraid that we finished some tests... and even with our add ons, it will still be at 102%, slower meltdown than before, but not good..."

He blinked as he looked at the core below him, "I just hope we can keep this AI alive, I have always been fascinated by how scientists can make computers appear to think for themselves, yet, I have only heard about one true independent machine, that could think somewhat like a human... was killed saving his crew though." He blinked. "Here I am talking about non essential items, so, come on... get to work, we got time a wasting."

O'Mannin got the message that sick bay was available and allowed a smile to cross his smoothly shaven face. The blaring noises of red alert status still assaulted his senses letting him know that all clear had not yet been given and the ship was still not secure.

"Ensign O'Mannin to the Mess Hall," the betazoid said tapping his communication badge, "begin transferring operations back to sick bay."

He then tapped his badge again, "Ensign O'Mannins requesting location to location transfer of two from Engineering to Sick Bay."

The young medical officer knew far to well that if he could not get the man he now knelt over stabilized they would loose him, borg assimilation or not.

"Ensign O'Mannin to Dr. David," he began again quickly as he passed the dermal regenerator over the deep laceration on the back of the wounded officers skull.

Looking about for a moment he could see his fellow medical officers busily at work with their tasks, "get the wounded to Sick Bay as you can," he offered in way of an order, "and then see about scanning the Engineering officers as was requested."

"Come on," he muttered under his breath impatiently awaiting an answer to his request.

As Shepard prepared to bring Brackman's shuttle onboard, Brackman put away the PADD in his hands and began to press on the panels on his wrist device. After a few minutes, he said to it, "QAI, transfer your primary operations to the secondary computer core when it is prepared and then enter sleep mode as soon as you calculate how long the core would last with you operating in sleep mode."

Brackman then said to Shepard, "Something that you'd probably like to know, Commander - the chance that your computer core will survive sustaining QAI unscathed is relatively low. The core will begin to slowly overload as soon as the transfer is complete. It won't explode if we don't push it to the limit, but it will probably begin to deteriorate as the overload builds up. At some point, it will become too badly damaged to repair. Hopefully we don't reach that point - I don't know if you'd like to be in drydock for that kind of maintenance."

"Nothing personal, Brackman. But I learned along time ago never trust scientists sense they are usually the ones who come up with the virus's that wipe out planets." Urban said with malice contempt for Brackman.

~Memories of his parents, brothers and sisters dieing by a virus flooded into his mind as he witnessed his family and friends being ravaged by a plague scientists came up with to supposedly help the population of Antiga Prime but instead killed them. < if the shuttle is an intelligent entity > Mimas' thoughts continued < if it has a mind, it must be receptive to the Vulcan mindlink >

His heart grew warm with the memory of his Vulcan grandfather : < Oh sa'mekh'al, if l had only paid more attention to your teachings, maybe l would feel Vulcan enough to try kash-naf with a shuttle...>
Mimas figured, that when computers were that badly damaged, the logical thing to do was to shut them down, and reboot them when the proper equipment was available for repairs.
< even Humans put their own kind in a stasis, untill they can be treated > he thought, < and l sure that the doctor would be able to reboot the core processors, once we have arrived in the Station >

His thoughts were interrupted as his console bleeped:

"I believe there is an alternate method," Brackman said, "If I could have a spare computer core or something of similar processing power, I could transfer the shuttle's operations onto the computer core. Mind you, it would be temporary. QAI could give you a more accurate time, but my guess is that the substitute would only last a few hours at best. It would be enough time to get back to the station hopefully. Worst case, we won't make it back to the station in time and my shuttle will be sitting in your shuttlebay for a few days."

"As for your equipment, I don't believe clearance is our highest priority at the moment. Brackman gave a brief, unsincere smile before reaching into one of his lab coat pockets and taking out a PADD and beginning to look through the PADD's contents.

"We could use our back up computer core. This QAI has wont have access to the primary computer core so no security would be breached, even if it did breach the computer, we could destroy the QAI at a moments notice by sending a localized EMP surge through our systems directly to the QAI's location, which should knock out the QAI before it accessed any sensitive information. As a further security measure we could sever any links to the main computer core and give it a seperate power source so it can exist in its own little world and it wont have access to the ships primary systems. Engineering could monitor the seperate computer core like a doctor would a organic patient." Urban said.

Bridge, U.S.S. Concordia

Upon hearing Urban's suggestion, Brackman snapped back to reality and replied, irritated, "I would appreciate it if you at least tried to pretend that you didn't hold artifical intelligences in such contempt, Lieutenant. Just because something is not made of flesh and blood doesn't make it any less sentient. In any case, I was actually suggesting something smaller, more portable, that would fit into the shuttle, so that after it's connected and the operations transferred, the shuttle could then be moved however you wanted into the shuttle bay. That way, the situation would be solved without severely compromising security."

Brackman briefly laid a cold look at Urban. The boy was a little too eager to destroy something he didn't understand for Brackman to like and the way he said 'organic patient' unsettled Brackman. He was becoming concerned over how the Federation view sentience.

YOU are a guest on this ship, you have no power or authority here. If the Captain wishes we could hold your shuttle and send you on your way, which I know for a fact, HE! wouldnt do. I merely suggested giving your QAI more of a data space and if he did attack our ship systems we could merely defend ourselves against the attack. I never came close to suggesting we destroy your shuttle." Urban defended himself rather quickly.

"If I wanted your shuttle destroyed, I would have shot your shuttle while its defenses were down but at the same time I would have been relieved of duty and charged with murder of a sentient life form, it doesnt matter if its metal or organic, life is life. No matter how big or small. So I suggest you check your temper right now before I have you escorted off the bridge." Urban said calming down slightly.

He scratched the back of his neck. "I'm afraid we don't have anything that small that would support any more than a basic LCARS operating system, doctor. We'll have to do as Karl suggested, and cordon off the secondary computer core and hold your AI within it until we get back to Vernemeton. I know it seems extreme, but it's actually more secure than ripping apart a bunch of shuttles."

Ignoring Urban's statement about his temper, as Brackman wasn't the one who just had an almost violent outburst, and at the same time deciding not to point out where Urban's statements were flawed, Brackman shifted in his seat so that he could talk to Shepard more comfortably.

"Since I apparently have no choice in the matter, you can proceed as you see fit, Commander. I do have one small condition, however - that no one, but me should be allowed in my shuttle. Much of its contents are classified, no matter what state they're in. On that one matter, I cannot and will not give into," Brackman paused for a moment and added softly, "by both orders and by choice." After Urban arrived on the bridge, Brackman did a few more calculations before placing both of his PADDs back into his lab coat's pockets.

Brackman turned toward Shepard and said, "As your scans could and will tell you, my shuttle is badly damaged and is barely operational. Obviously, I do not have the necessary materials to repair it. Making anything from scratch would take too long and the extent of the damage would require too many spare shuttle parts, unless you keep enough to build one. As I probably have mentioned before, the only feasible option I see is to disassemble an operational one and use those parts to replace the damaged ones. How should we proceed?"

Naquv was just standing and respectfully listening to the doctor and the two starfleet officers. Since he just used the algorithm, Naquv decided to start making a new one while on the bridge. Making an algorithm was not for the indecisive, for at the start there were so many choices. Fractal, trinary, and geometric were just a few of the bases to start out with. then all of the steps had more choices. Naquv decided to do a fractal algorithm. He usually added at least one step per day until it was needed. The Concordia turned about to go back to Vernemeton, but the plan according to the Commander, was to completely secure the shuttle before going to warp.
Naquv asked Shepard, "Sir shall I go to impulse or stay at our current location until it is secure?"

The door to the makeshift Sick bay opened as Daniel prepared to begin moving what furniture was present into a more agreeable arrangement for a medical facility. He raised his dark blue eyes and saw as an object clanked to the tiled floor and the science officer staggered unaided through the sliding doors that allowed entrance into the room. He saw instantly the darkened streaks left by some sort of flame that soiled the uniform and rushed to offer his aid.

As he began his approach, the newly arriving officer explained that the dreaded Borg hand finagled their arrival aboard their vessel and his encounter with their stubborn nature. Normally his words would have held a but more humorous a nature but not now, not while there was a threat to his patients, the crew or himself.

He watched as the superior officer pressed a few consol buttons to the side of the door. For the most part, he understood his actions but being he was so new to the vessel and had never met the man he was at a bit of a loss.

Before he could utter a word of protest thinking the officer intended to block the access to the room he saw the phaser being launched in his direction and took actions to catch it. His first attempt was a bit awkward and the weapon bounced upwards off the side of his left his right thumb. The Ensign thought quickly and as the device began its decent, he caught it readily. Daniel sighed and allowed a slight smile to cross his face.

Through the two metal partitions that served as the doorway an arm, slightly humanoid but encased in wires and metal was protruding. It hindered the closure and the science officer used his cane to assault the offending limb.

Another hand grasped the side of the door and began to pull the partition into the pocket it was designed for. Now Ensign O'Mannin was faced with a more direct view of the assailant. It was his first real encounter with such a creature. To be honest it was his first real experience with an armed and dangerous intruder. To be sure there were many drills and holographic simulations of such events but nothing could truly prepare the young officer for such an event.

"Stand back sir," he ordered forgetting protocol for the moment and then fired on the oddly wired intruder.

His aim was dead on, only problem was the personal shielding of the borg had adjusted to the weapons frequency and only a slight jolting could be viewed in the creature. A moment later, it stood within the doorway raising his own weapon to eliminate the medical officer.

Daniel had already began to fumble with the settings. He managed two things, first to change the frequency and to change the power level of the weapon. In his haste he was not sure weather either were correct. To be truthful the young officer rather disliked weapons of any kind. He had gone through his training successfully and managed to earn high marks for his accuracy and skill but that did not sway his opinions regarding them and violence in general.

He fired again and this time fell to his left knee hoping to throw off the borg's aim and to steady his own. The shot was successful striking the creature squarely on his head, a mark higher than the chest O'Mannin was aiming for. Still, the borg fell with a gratifying thud to the floor at the science officers feet. He was not sure the creature was dead or if there were others so he stayed at his position, the weapon aimed at the fallen creature and waited to see what would happen.

(Ooc: just for clarification Sick Bay has temporarily been reassigned to the Mess Hall. Deck 5 has been evacuated and sealed off. you may decided the extent of damage I inflicted on the borg and whether there are more we need to address.)

The young officer glanced over at the science officer. He was so knew he had not met most of the crew. Even higher ranking officers were not yet acquainted with him and he wondered how the Lieutenant had known he could even fire the phaser let alone hit something with it.

"Lieutenant sir," he said returning his gaze back the now unmoving borg, "are you injured, sir."

Not waiting for a proper reply he carefully laid his medical tricorder down with his left hand keeping the phaser at the ready in his right.

With his now free hand he tapped the communication badge on his uniform and began to speak, "Ensign O'mannin to security, we have a borg here in the mess hall."

He stood to his feet and began walking over to the yet unidentified, at least to Daniel, Science officer. The Ensign kept an eye on the downed enemy, he advanced not wanting to give the half humanoid, half machine an opportunity to cause further harm.

The sound from the red alert alarms wafted in heavily to the make shift sick bay and made the young officer a little more on edge than he already was.

"We should be hearing from security soon sir," he offered with a nod, "I can't exactly run triage with a borg looking me in the eye." He let a sly smile cross his face then as quickly as it came it vanished again, "If it is acceptable to you Lieutenant, I will be happy to examine you once they have arrived."

Concordia: Mess hall/Engineering

The young Ensign almost blushed as he remembered the weapon he possessed was only a loan, offered to him by the superior science officer. He began to hand the phaser over to the Lieutenant and nodded, "I should return this sir," he said and handing it over careful not to let the weapon misfire.

"We need someone to move the borg, at least what's left of it," he said almost absent mindedly but two of his colleagues sprang to work to move the lifeless form from before the portol.

"Ensign O'Mannin sir, at your service," he offered just before the message the word of injured in Engineering and Science reached them.

"Looks like formal introductions will have to wait," he said with a chuckle, "Apologies sir."

To his right now stood Ensign Sperrin, a female human with long dark tresses. She offered him the tricorder he had abandoned on the Mess Hall floor not moments before. "Thank you," O'mannin offered quickly.

With his next breath he began dividing the staff, "Girvan, Mullen and you," Daniel said referring to Sperrin, "were going to Engineering. Humphrey and Maddox you go to the shuttle bay department."

He made the orders as if he was the superior officer and in some ways he was, but he could not help but notice the looks from some of the officers not attempting to mask their disapproval. Some felt they should be giving the orders, after all, Daniel had not been assigned to the ship in the usual manor, nor was he present for the first roll call for that matter. He had no experience as an officer aboard a ship and it was his first post yet his training before being accepted to Starfleet was substantial compared to any they possessed.

The title of Doctor, although allowable based on the degrees he had achieved before his acceptance as a cadet, was not something he cared to relish in. He had chose not to mention it at all when he first saw his commanding officer and to his knowledge, no one really knew it. What he was lacking was not head knowledge but experience. In an effort to impress his way into the academy he met every defeated request with the only ammunition he knew of, knowledge. When the refused him the first as a counselor he already possessed a doctoral degree from a prestigious University in psychology. The second time he applied, he had added to it a second, this time in medical research. Then with the third one he added another PHD in advanced neurological sciences. The fourth time, and the one that finely got him accepted was in Medicine, a bit less sophisticated than his others but had been successful in convincing the acceptance committee he was a good candidate.

Even with such education they still required him to attend the academy simply because they wished to observe him and his abilities for themselves considering his severe learning disability and his unique medical and genetic makeup. To be sure, Ensign Daniel O'Mannin was gifted intellectually and socially in at least some respects, but he had to fight too and nail as the expression goes for every inch of progress he made. Though he could listen once to a book in an extremely short time and have it memorized being able to recall exactly what chapter and if mention in the reading what heading or subheading it had appeared, many feared that someone with as many issues as he possessed would make a less than desirable officer.

He returned the tricorder to his side and accepted the Emergency medical kit Humphrey offered with one hand and the emergency surgical kit with the other.

With both hands full he touched his com badge with the bent elbow of his left hand, " On our way," he offered, "Transporter room, requesting location to location transport for four to Engineering."

He vanished into a beam of energy along with his small group of medical personnel. The feeling of molecular transport when done conventionally was an exhilarating experience for Daniel but when done in this less traditional manor it always brought back memories of the tale concerning his father disappearance.

As they materialized within Engineering, he had to mentaly turn off his telepathic abilities. It seemed that every time he was faced with a new environment he had to consciously bring his Betazoidian inheritance under his control.

(Ooc: Sorry if it seems I am doing too much. If you wish me to edit I will be happy to do so.

(Ooc 2: The two medical officers sent to the shuttle bay and the thee with Daniel in Engineering can be puppeted by anyone. Danial for that matter can be puppeted seeing I am not sure I will be getting back on again to post before my vacation.

"Sir, sensors indicate the borg sphere is activating it's tractorbeam... We will have to transport the shuttle the very same minute it's shields have dropped, l don't think we have a few seconds...."

U.S.S, Concordia

Ensign Elbrun's deep blue eyes darted about the unusually vacant corridor. With the intermittently flashing red lights and the pulsating sounds that met his ears it was an eerier experience for the young half Betazoind. He regained his breath and stepped through the sliding doorway of the mess hall and peered about hoping someone, anyone that might have more experience at such events might be there to guide him.

Nearly as quickly as he had arrived the first of the wounded stumbled through the door, an Ensign light himself holding his wounded left hand with his right. His uniform indicated he was from engineering and from the looks of the object protruding from his hand the young red headed human had tried to steady himself against a console only to find part of the hard surface shattered into his hand.

"Here," Daniel offered helping the young man to a chair near the doorway, "I'll take a look at that."

"Oh thanks," the officer replied with more of a grimace than a smile.

The sandy haired half Betazoid sat the case down he was carrying and began to examine the wounded hand with his medical tricorder waving the small cylindrical reader over the affected area. The injury was only a flesh wound and despite the rapid blood loss it would be remedied rather simply without too much pain. He knelt down so he could get closer to the patient and placed the medical device on a near by seat. Next to it he placed the medical kit and opened it. The medical officer returned his attention to the patient and prepared to gently remove the superficially inserted object.

"I'm Ensign Daniel O'Mannin sir," he offered looking at his patients, "this might hurt a little."

"McCay," the man replied with a nod indicating both his last name and his recognition of the impending trauma he might experience.

"Ready," Daniel questioned and then plucked the dark colored object quickly from the mans hand.

The engineering officer sighed with relief, "that did't hurt much," he said with a smile.

"Thanks," the half Betazoid replied applying pressure with his left hand and retrieving the vascular regenerator from the case.

He activated the device with one skilled movement and began the processes of repairing the damage. As he continued his task the door hissed open and the rest of the medical staff began to filter in, most absent of patients but a few guiding in the wounded and taking up positions within the large room.

"There," Daniel said with a nod, "should be fine now Ensign McCay."

The man smiled and offered his sincere gratitude, "thanks," he said, "Havn't seen you before, are you new?"

"Yes, first day on duty," O'Mannin replied trying to be as friendly as possible, "perhaps we will run into one another again sometime."

As the two parted he looked about for a medical officer with a higher rank than his own to find how he might best be of service only to find none were too concerned in taking leadership.

"Computer," the half betazoid said, "please stabilize the lighting this room."

"Lighting stabilized," the female voice responded as the pulsating emergency lighting subsided and the standard lighting of the facility too over.

"Now," he said to himself, "what's next?"

Naquv heard the assistant tactical officer's words and instantly new it was up to him, as he was in charge of transporters. This is what his warrior and starfleet training prepared him for. It was only timing the transporters right, but the circumstances called for nearly perfect timing, no do-overs. He set a timer when Brackman said there was 20 seconds, now there was 9. Naquv had a premonition of a console exploding to his right as the timer hit zero. That is exactly the way it happened, but his foresight prepared him and he turned his back to the console and was right on, the transporter got the shuttle just at the perfect time.

<As the shuttle was transported him and the few seconds our shields were dropped, several beeps came from Urban's console>

"Sir, We have been boarded." Urban yelled out, just then several Borg drones materialized on the Bridge.

<Urban drew his phaser and fired, killing one. Then fired again at another who was approaching the Captain, but the shields adapted>

<Urban used his other hand to fire the modified phaser again, but this time aimed for the Sphere's center, then he fired>

<Another bright stream sped through space and impacted the Borg sphere, the phaser beam cut through the Borg ship like butter, causing the ship to begin to explode into millions of pieces>

Even before Mimas heard the words "we've been boarded" he had drawn his phaser, as if he had sensed there were going to be uninvited visitors....
Mimas fired his weapon simultaniously with Urban....
2 borg drones fell down on the floor in front of the main screen...
" Security to bridge ASAP" he yelled to his communicator... "and send a team to the shuttle hangar as well. If it is the shuttle they're after, they might have transported some drones there too..."

He continued to no-one in particular: "If it is the shuttle they're after...."

He glanced at Brackman, who still was without emotions what so ever...

Bridge - U.S.S. Concordia

As the Borg materialized onto the bridge, Brackman reached into one of his lab coat's pockets and took out something that resembled a phaser but was much bulkier and larger, turning as he did so to face the drones on the bridge.

As the bridge crew scrambled to respond, Brackman calmly fired on the other two drones that weren't being targeted by the crew. A series of blue bursts of light erupted from the modified phaser. Upon contact with the drones, the drones froze in place. A blue light encompassed the drones briefly before disappating. A moment later, their biological halves began to rapidly deteriorate. Brackman watched emotionlessly as the drones collapsed into dust, with their mechanical components falling to the floor with a small thunk and an occasional clang as two small piles of Borg parts accumulated on the carpet. The only drones that had survived intact were the ones the crew had fire upon, which there were several of.

"Hmph. I guess I should have set a lower setting," Brackman said to no one in particular, staring interestedly at one of the pile of Borg parts before looking at the phaser he held in his hand. "I think there's a stun setting somewhere here." Brackman began to fiddle around with the phaser, oblivious to what the bridge crew was doing and apparently unaware that he had just annihilated two Borg drones.

"Ah, here it is," Brackman said, with the phaser beeping as its setting changed. Looking up, he said, "So, we should be heading back to the station now, shouldn't we?"

((OOC: Clarifier: The modified phaser can only destroy organic matter.))

Main Engineering Concordia
Dwight looked to his left as the counsel began to spark again. "Damage repair now... I do not want to send any more of you to sickbay." He was not happy, the damage from the Borg sphere was more then he wanted.

However what drained his color from his face was the emotionless voice of the computer. "Intruder Alert, Intruder Alert, shuttle Bay two, Bridge, and Main Engineering."

He right away pulled his phaser off his belt as five drones materialized into the main lobby, while he heard some shouts above.

=A=BRIDGE, I NEED MARINES... I GOT AT LEAST SEVEN DRONES HERE!=A=

He stopped talking as he fired at the nearest drone only to have the shielding already adapted. "FALL BACK... DON'T LET THEM TOUCH YOU! COMPUTER BORG LOCK DOWN!" he was shouting at his men as they fell back to the core, the doorways already blocked by the Drones. He while talking had recalibrate his phaser and shot it again, one drone down, six to go.

He really hopped security would come. He noticed however that some of his men were already getting to some weapons lockers in engineering.

He finished another set, while backing up and fired again. A crewman also fired his phaser having been firing what was blanks, always hitting the shields and two more drones dropped.

However he noticed one drone already trying to bypass the shielding that where covering the controls along the entry way.

=A=We got a Borg trying to break into out computers... I really need some help.=A=

A voice shouted up top and he realized that there were still drones up top. He hopped help would come soon. "We got four up here... and Ensign Fish was just hit."

((Engineering, taking data that I observed from First Contact, would be one of the places the Borg would try to hit. Control anything from there. Just trying to be realistic, hope this is okay.))
