Notes:
When Starfleet first encountered the Dalriada, it's ships were
poorly able to deal with the swarms of missiles fired from long range
-- missiles with deadly bomb-pumped x-ray laser warheads.  The need for
point-defense system became evident.  Some Starfleet vessels, most in
INDIGO fleet, were refit with such a defense. The CIRCE class is the
first Battle Cruiser built to make extensive use of the new defensive
standard for Starfleet ships.
This advanced, experimental cruiser mounts twenty-four point
defense lasers, capable of very rapid fire at close range.  The lasers
cover all fields of fire, and field tests have shown that these beams
much more effective than any existing options for intercepting and
destroying incoming missiles and photon torpedoes.  The CIRCE also is
equipped with two intercept drone launchers.  These drones emit a
signature very much like the ship that they are protecting so that the
attacker goes after or at least locks onto them, and not the 'mother
ship'.
In addition to the new defensive systems, the CIRCE is equipped
with Starfleet's newest phaser, the type Xf.  These beams are
much more tightly focused than the standard type X phaser allowing for
much greater range, thus providing the option to engage most enemies
beyond their energy weapon range.  However, the Xf's are not without
drawbacks.  An advanced targeting or sensor system is required for long
range attacks, recharge time is over two times that of the type X, and
the power output of the phaser is greatly reduced with range:
100,000 km  -  150% type X at simalar range
200,000 km  -  106% type X at simalar range
300,000 km  -   87% type X at simalar range
       400,000 km  -   75% type X at simalar range
The Xf phasers are mounted in ball-shaped turrets that restrict the
fields of fire.  To complement the type Xf phasers, the CIRCE
incorporates six standard type X emitters for standard attack
distances. Four Xa pulse phasers and four torpedo launchers help to
round out the ship for multiple tactical situations.
The CIRCE is also equipped with the next-generation SCIMITAR
tactical system originally developed for the MONTU class light cruiser.
The SCIMITAR allows for faster and more accurate deployment, targeting
and coordination of all weapons and defensive systems during an
engagement.  It incorporates a new series of tactical sensors, a
dedicated computer core, advanced software, and all available weapon
systems into one integrated package capable of providing tactical
dominance greater than the mere ordinance itself would suggest.

Notes:
The AGAMEMNON-class battle cruiser is a completely dedicated warship
with comparatively limited scientific research capability as
evidenced in a reduced number of laboratories.  This is not a
problem -- the AGAMEMNON class is a ship designed to combat.  No
other ship in the Federation inventory combines speed and armament
into as elegant and lethal a package as the AGAMEMNON class.
Armed with 6 MkIII Flux Torpedo launchers and 8 Mk-X Phaser banks,
the AGAMEMNON class is a formidable foe.  But with the addition of
the Mk-Xc Phaser Cannon, mounted on the underside of the primary
hull, the AGAMEMNON class is truly deadly in combat.  The addition
of eight pulse phasers in four turrents completes this ships
transformation to a battle cruiser with weaponry comparable to
that of a battleship, speed greater than a battleship, and armor
less than a battleship.
The AGAMEMNON class holds 300 Marines and a number of support
vehicles, including 6 dropships.  These specially designed
transports permit rapid deployment of troops to planets, other
ships, and the like.
Unlike the GALAXY-class cruisers and her cousins, the
AGAMEMNON-class ship cannot separate narrow, knife-like saucer
section from the secondary hull.  In fact, the secondary hull
houses many more of the primary systems and crew quarters than
on most Federation starships.  Also unlike most Federation
cruisers, because of the nature of the missions taken on by the
AGAMEMNON-class ships, civillians are not permitted to remain on the
ship for extended periods of time.
AGAMEMNON-class battlecruisers are named for historical and mythical
heroes, kings, people, and creatures.

Notes:

USS TEMPEST began her life as a STORM-class light cruiser, a
designrenowned for its endurance and speed.  With the need for a smaller,
moreagile command cruiser, she was converted to the first command
lightcruiser in the star fleet and the class named in her honor. The
massive refit of the ship resulted primarily in internal changes
toaccommodate the requirements of a flagship.  These included that
additionof a flag bridge, quarters for an admiral and his staff, and a
quartersand training areas for a marine complement.  This has resulted in
the shipbecoming more crowded and in a sharp reduction in authorized
civiliancomplement.

The most noticable external change is the replacement of the
500-serieswarp nacelles with the newest drives in the 400-series.  The
change in thenacelles and corresponding changes in the power plant have
resulted in adecline in faster-than-light cruising performance under
normal warp drive, but were necessary for the addition of the dimensional
warp drive mandatedon all command ships by Star Fleet Command directive
80120-115.  Tocompensate for the increase in mass of the ship because of
these and otherchanges, Star Fleet Engineering has integrated the
Quickstep thrustercontrol system into the new class, maintaining the
ship's superiorsublight performance, key in any combat scenario.

An additional transporter room services the flag area quarters.  Fournew
combat trasnporters are available to deplay marines and two new
cargotrasnporters are available to deploy marine equipment.  One
emergencytransporter was removed during the refit. With the addition of
d-warp drive, the authorized d-warp shuttlecomplement has been increased
to 4.

To accomodate the new power requirements, the fusion reactor network
wasupgraded from a 700 to a 702 network.The ship's primary hull (saucer
section) is a large flat oval shape.  There are separation devices between
the primary and secondary hull, whichallow for separation and
reattachment.  The secondary hull (Drive Section)extends back from the aft
section of the primary hull and contains most of engineering and warp
drive systems.  The impulse engines were placed toprovide the maximum
force against the center of the ship's mass.  Thisincreases
maneuverability at impulse velocities and, coupled with theQuickstep
thruster control system makes the class one of the mostmaneuverable
cruisers in the inventory.  The warp nacelles extend belowthe secondary
hull on ether side.

The main sensor array has been placed on the forward most part of
theprimary hull.  It is enclosed inside an outer hull shell for
addedprotection from small impact bodies.  This shell can be removed
formaintenance and refit.A hard point below the secondary hull allows the
mounting of severaldifferent kinds of devices including cargo pods,
electronic countermeasures, and sensors. This is simalar to the
multimission pod of the HOOD-class cruisers, but it much smaller.  It is
generally used to mountsensors that are interfered with by the hull
plating and will not functionproperly when mounted with the main sensor
cluster.  Unlike the HOOD, allpower for the pod is provided by links to
the main EPS system and thereare direct power feeds to this point.
Amoung other things, this meansthat phaser weapons mounted in the pod do
not have independent capacitorbanks and power sources.  This creates
limited firing durations which makesuch weapons basically ineffectual.
The limited size of the pods alsomeans that ordinance storage for photon
torpedoes is extremely limited.

Some experiements to mount HOOD-type weapons pods on STORM-class
cruisershave been conducted.  However, these experiments have met with
poorresults because of fundamental incompatabilities in the designs of the
twopods systems.

Notes:

The SOLAR-class Command Cruiser is the latest cruiser design to come from
Starfleet Engineering, and was a personal project of Admiral Hathaway.
Based on the OLYMPIC-class Cruisers, the SOLAR-class is designed to be to
be a multi-mission ship, much like its predecessor.  Unlike the
OLYMPIC-class, however, the SOLAR-class is quite capable of leading major
combat operations.  The weapons and shielding systems have been upgraded,
and a third warp nacelle has been added to provided enhanced warp field
power and improved geometry to allow faster warp travel.

The SOLAR-class carries enhanced computer cores that allow the ship to
coordinate major fleet movements including starships, shuttlecraft flight
groups, and other craft.  Further, the new ORACLE sensor array has been
incorporated into the design.  This system, based on the DELPHI array of
the FENRIS, makes the best compromise between advanced DELPHI sensors and
the special equipment needed to ustilize the DELPHI array to its fullest.
This give the ship some of the advanced sensor technology in Star Fleet
while giving the arary robust performance under combat conditions.

The Primary-hull incorporates the many changes, inclusding 5 new decks.
The most striking addition, however, is of a third warp nacelle, mounted
directly on the saucer.  Whereas the saucer-section of an OLYMPIC-class
cruiser was incapable of warp flight, the SOLAR-class saucer is capable of
warp speed.  This makes it a much more valuable evacuation vehicle.  In
the event of evacuation to the Primary hull, an OLYMPIC, often working
many hundreds of lightyears from Federation space, could be stranded for
months before a rescue ship arrived.  In contrast, the SOLAR-class saucer
can easily return to Federation space on its own power.  The single
warpdrive can propel the Saucer at speeds of up to Warp 7, and slightly
higher speeds if absolutely necessary.  Further, the SOLAR-class vessel's
saucer section mounts two torpedo launchers -- the traditional aft
launcher which is concealed while the ship is in dual-flight mode and a
new second launcher which is a forward mounted tube that can fire photon
or flux torpedoes when operating in dual or seperate flight mode.

The secondary-hull maintains most aspects of the OLYMPIC-class, with the
exception that a "dummy" warp-nacelle is added in an elongated aft section
to stabilize the warp-field geometry.  This fourth nacelle acts to
ballance the warp geometry of the three nacelle system.

Turrets are mounted below each of the secondary hull warp nacelles. Each
mount contains two of the new pulse phaser banks.  These weapons operate
by firing repeated "pulses" of phased energy at a target. These
high-powered packets impact sequentially on the same part of a target's
shield.  With each impact comes a "dimpling" of the shield; before the
shield can regenerate, it is struck by another pulse and then another.
This attack functions to penetrate the shield bubble and strike the hull
before conventional weapons can.

The SOLAR-class has four landing bays, two each in the primary and
secondary hull, that carry many smaller craft including runabouts,
shuttlepods, and two marine dropships which assist in the deployment of
the 300 marines that are carried on the SOLAR-class cruiser.

The other major enhancements are the addition of flux torpedoes and the
the new FD-12e "Carapace" deflector shields.  These enhanced screens are
some 20% more powerful than the shields on the OLYMPIC-class vessel.  The
upgrade fire-control computers of the Solar-class cruisers allow more
accurate delivery of these weapons than achievable by any other ship in
the fleet.  Although approxiamately the same size as photon torpedoes,
flux torpedoes employ an advanced warhead design with dramatically higher
energy flux rates, thereby increasing the explosive power.

This latest incarnation of the GALAXY-class spaceframe adds point defense
systems and a phaser cannon to the formidable arsenal of the SOLAR-class
command battle cruiser.  In so doing, it replaces a number of the
conventional Type X phaser emitters and reroutes their EPS power conduits
and capacitor banks to feed the cannon and point defense network.

The net effect is an increase in mass which hurts the already large ship
in close combat.  However, this is offset to a large degree by the new
point defense systems.  The point defense systems also more than make up
for the lower maximum acceleration of the ship in long range engagements.

Notes:

The ZEUS is the single most formidable ship in the Federation inventory.
With growning tensions on both Klingon and Romulan borders, Star Fleet
Engineering went ahead with the plan to launch a new, state of the art
dreadnought capable of acting as a forward area battle fleet command ship.
Armed with the most advanced weapons systems, shields, and drives, the
ship owes much to its cousin, the SOLAR-class command cruiser.  However,
these ships are not a science ships with tactical command capabilities,
they are warships.

Like the CAESAR AUGUSTUS-class heavy cruisers, the ZEUS-class battleships
make their purpose abundantly clear.  These ships are the strong arm of
the Federation.  In an age where the Dominion has access to the Alpha
Quadrant through two worm holes, at DS9 and DS12, and with growing
concerns about the threat of the Borg, advancing unprecedentedly slowly
through Romulan space, diplomacy does not always work.  In those cases,
the ZEUS presents its regal lines to restore peace.

The ship is a needle in space, for all its tremendouns size and bulk.  The
ship has a rounded wedge-shaped primary hull mated directly to the
secondary hull.  Three warp nacelles are mounted around the rounded form
of the secodary hull.  The ship is a compact for its size and meant to
provide the least area possible as a target.
