Apodae Swift

Name: Apodae Swift
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Place of Origin: York, England, Earth
Personality: Swift has, and always will be, a royal pain in the ass. He has doesn't really pay that much attention to authority and will always do what he thinks is right. The only reason Swift has lasted beyond his first day at the Academy without being thrown out is that he is good at what he does and shows some great potential. He is also pure and kind hearted, he will never be one to succumb to those darker influences that cloud human judgement... that is unless you were to hurt someone he really cared about.
Swift has a dry sarcastic wit that can occasionally get him in to trouble, deep trouble. He also sometimes can act quite rashly, fool hardy, and at times his plans can be down right insane. But most of the time they do work. Swift is an excellent fighter, marksman, and an alright pilot. Though if you ask him about warp theory he would probably just give you a blank expression and nod along, he isn't very intellectual. At least that is what he would have you think...
Background: According to official records Swift started out life as a normal child born aboard the USS Korolev, a ship on which his mother was second in command and his father was chief medical officer and specialised in genetics. When he was six his father died during an away mission on which he contracted an alien virus of some sort, it hit Swift hard but he grit his teeth and got on with life even at that age.
At eight his mother was granted the command of the USS Farsight, an Excelsior class exploration vessel. It was on this vessel that his training for Starfleet started, the chief security officer and a few of the other security officers began teaching Swift basic martial arts and even gave him lessons in tactical planning. When he turned ten the officers even started to show him how to fire phasers, set explosives, use basic equipment, and fly vessels both large and shuttle sized. He excelled in all these fields, though not matter what the science officers tried he just couldn't get the feel for any of those things. During his time on that ship he experienced a boarding party which at the time he found quite frightening, and one time the ship was taken over by an alien entity and he was left wander the halls in the dark for hours on his own. It was things of this nature that helped him build character.
When he was fourteen he and his mother moved to the USS Platone, a newly commissioned Intrepid class exploration ship. Because of this all the senior officers from the USS Farsight moved with her, except the second officer who was granted command of that vessel. This meant that the training he had been getting continued with the same people. During his time on this vessel he not only absorbed his mother's sense of humour, to the disdain of many, but he also got to go on a few away missions. All initially looked perfectly safe but one of two turned nasty and provided him with vital experience. The ship was boarded once and there were a few weird alien things that he couldn't totally understand, one of them actually came and went on it's own with no explanations from the crew. Though after all the fun of this part of his life came his greatest challenge yet, he enrolled in Starfleet academy...

Those are the official records, but everyone knows that official records never hold the whole truth, especially not his. The fact was that when Swift was born he wasn't the most intelligent person around, when other kids started to read and write Swift was still puzzling the difference between a duck and a horse. Needless to say his mother and father couldn't stand by and do nothing about this, she saw him trying so hard and getting no where that she felt she needed to interfere. So she did, her and his father hatched a plan, his father was a medical expect and had various contacts in the scientific community.
Gathering his closest friends that were highly esteemed in the medical world they used research, Augment research, to tweak Swift's very DNA to bring him up to the level of intelligence that a normal person had. His father wanted to give him a normal level however with the research they were using it was an all or nothing approach they had to take.
When Swift woke his mind raced, his muscles tensed, and he was filled with alarm. All of a sudden he had a keen intellect that could rival the best scientific minds, and his muscles, reflexes, strength, and senses were more then that of a normal human. It took a few hours to calm Swift down, then a good year to help him learn about himself, how he must keep his abilities, his augments secret. It was hard, yet he agreed. In a way the struggle he faced due to his intelligence was as taxing as his struggle due to the lack of it. He found himself being vastly more mature then others his age., he had to hide his interests in archaeology and the sciences, had to tone back his physical abilities and live a lie. If it ever came out he knew his parents would be thrown in jail. Yet he often wondered if he would too, or if they would just put him down like a dog...
