The Dominion War

[Voyager]

"I would prefer that the Breen, or any of the Dominion or their allies in that case, to know the existance of the fleeing fleet so if detours are required, so be it."

Dolan then beckoned for Beta to come over and look over his independent phaser bank design.

"You're going to be the first one to see this," Dolan said, waving the PADD a little.  "It is a design for a phaser bank with an independent power source, seperate from the main power grid, saving some power for the other ship systems and still providing defense even when there is a power outage or a power shortage.  I want you to look over it for any flaws.  I want to see if we could make an experimental one here in this holoprogram...if something goes wrong, no one will get hurt, though I don't think I would like to lose at this holoprogram...it's pretty fun."  Dolan grinned for a moment before continuing, "I'll explain the specifics if you need to a better explanation, I have some notes on the PADD."

Dolan then handed the PADD to Beta and waited for a response.

[Voyager]

*Soon, Dolan was done and similar work continued in the holoprogram, which gratefully had quicker days for the first hour of the program.  In a real world hour, a week had passed in the holoprogram, greatly advancing the story's plot much faster.  Gradually the time began to slow down enough for Dolan to reintergrate with the program*

Dolan arrived on the bridge from his quarters, took his seat and turned toward his first officer.

"So how has repairs come along?" Dolan asked.

The officer replied, "The warp drive and core have had all the necessary repairs finished an hour ago and we will be jumping to warp in a few minutes.  The rest of the ship has most of the repairs finished also except the weapons array, which is still offline.  With us heading to Federation space at maximum cruising speed, we could reach there in about 3 days, assuming we don't have any mishaps on the ship."

"Why 3 days? It took us 1 and a half to get to Cardassia," Dolan asked.

"We had run out of certain parts to repair the warp drive and core and had to make our own, less efficient ones out of what we have since the replicators are damaged beyond repair."

"Alright.  So we'll be getting back later than I had hoped.  Where are all of the other ships at the battle?" Dolan asked, having wondering where they were for some time now.

The officer's face grew dark but he replied, "Most of the ships were destroyed.  You had been knocked out and I took command.  We had received the order to retreat while you were unconsious and did so almost immediately.  By the time we received the order, a good part of the fleet was destroyed and we didn't stay to see what happened.  We hope the rest of the fleet survived but we won't find out until we reach Starfleet."

"We have to hurry then.  The Federation might have very few ships left, though I would expect them to have been refitting older ships in case we failed.  Let's hope we return before something terrible happens to the Federation."  Dolan had hoped for an exciting holoprogram and he was getting one.

[Voyager]

"Good work Ensign.  That should be enough, set a course to Earth and go to warp as soon as the coordinates are set. They can't pursuit us with only impulse and we have managed to delay them for at least a couple of hours," Dolan replied.  He was very glad that the safety protocols were online.

"We are at warp to Earth," the helmsman answered.

"As soon as we are within communications range with Earth, contact me," Dolan said, "I'm heading to Engineering to help with repairs.  Ensign, you're with me."  Turning to the helmsman, Dolan said,"Helmsman, you have the deck.  Notify me once we enter communications range with Earth."  Dolan then left for Engineering, expecting Ensign Quinn to follow.

[Voyager]

"Engineering to Bridge, how long until we are within communications range?"  Dolan said, expecting the new arrival, who appeared to be the helmsman, to answer, since Dolan had left the holographic helmsman in charge of the bridge when he left for engineering.

He then turned back to Quinn, who still hasn't answered the question yet, and asked again, "Do we have anything else that needs our attention?"

[Voyager]

*In his ready room, Dolan decided to see what went wrong at the battle.*

"First, something to drink," Dolan said to himself, and turned to the replicator, and ordered, "Coffee, black."  He took the cup that appeared and then sat down at the desk to look over the sensor logs.

[Quinn]

"Captain I tried hailing starfleet headquarters, there's no response.." He paused for a second.

"Sensors are reading a total of 121,000 life signs on the planet surface, I'm dedecting no federation signature,"

[Alex Takio]

"Captain we will be in transporter range within 2 minutes, also dropping speed to half impulse"
Fingers fly over the panel slowing the ship down to half impulse. Takio looks at the top left corner of the console, frowns and quickly enters a command.
"Sir the probe will have to be programmed manually if we want scans of the Luna colony"

A light starts blinking

"Sir sencors have found an unkown object ahead of us, maybe a ship!"

[Voyager]

OOC:  Of course I don't mind, we could use more people.  Things have been kind of slow here.

IC:

Dolan was unsure who the new arrival was, but didn't think it was a part of the holoprogram, seeing the mobile emitter the new arrival had.  He decided to welcome him and said, "Greetings sir.  I'm Ensign Dolan.  You have just arrived at a holoprogram I have running.  Ensign Takio and Ensign Quinn here have also joined this holoprogram.  I'm the captain of the program's Ambassador-class vessel called the USS Bismark.  If you'll come with me to the ready room, I'll explain more of what is going on in the program."  Dolan then paused to allow the newcomer to comprehend this information.  "I have a feeling you didn't intentionally arrive here but I think we can still have you join us if you want" Dolan remarked.  Dolan then went to his ready room, where he could talk to the new arrival privately.

[Voyager]

Dolan thought for a moment and said, "Beta-I can call you that, right?-I think you could take over security and maybe share tactical with Ensign Quinn.  He seems to have frozen up at the tactical station.  You could also serve as Chief Engineer since you would probably have a better recall of ship systems than the rest of us.  It's your choice."

After thinking for a moment, Dolan added, "In your free time, you can look up things about the Dominion War and the things that happened around then.  So far in this holoprogram, the Federation and its allies the Romulans and the Klingons have lost the Battle of Cardassia with heavy casualties, which in the real world ended the war with a Federation victory.  This ship is a survivor of the battle and headed back to the Sol system to report the outcome of the battle.  However, Sol was abandoned before the Dominion attacked and destroyed all of the colonies and Earth.  A bioship from Species 8472 happened to be around and drove the Dominion off before they could destroy Jupiter Station.  We are now trying to evacuate the station and catch up with the fleet that had left Sol before the Dominion attack.  We are welcome to any help you can provide for us in this program.  I'll introduce you to Ensign Takio and Ensign Quinn on the bridge now if you want."

[Alex Takio]

Takio quickly calculates what would happen if all power was sent to the warp drive

"Captain we would be able to get warp nine point one but only for about four to five hours"

Fingers flick over the console as a message is sent to the bioship out lining what they were going to do.  The ship is then brought about and sent to warp six point three to the predetermined coordinates.

"Sir the bioship is following and matching our speed"

[Holographic Officer Beta]

Linking some Ops functions with his console, Beta checked the ships power systems and altered them slightly.

"Sir, I have rerouted power from a few more non-essentials, but we were mostly running on borrowed power anyway. Our warp speed will only increase by point 13. I would think that we should be safe from being caught by the enemy, but would suggest not making a direct route. Perhaps passing through a nebula or two off course to disrupt our imprint on space itself to throw our pursuers off our tracks?"

[Julian]

*suddenly the power in the station cuts out. Backup power takes over but after about 5 seconds it also kicks out.*

[Voyager]

*Dolan sent a message to the Celtic Corner inviting everyone there to join him before continuing.  Once again, half an hour passed and 3 days in the game flew by before slowing to normal time again.*

"Captain, we have arrived at Deep Space 9," the helmsman announced.

"Open a comm channel with the base, I need to speak with them," Dolan replied, "This is Captain Dolan to Deep Space 9.  Is anyone there?"

The helmsman answered, "Sir, the base seems...abandoned.  All I can find is an encrypted message from the base."

Everyone on the bridge looked shocked, except the few Vulcans there.

"How long before we can have the message decoded?" Dolan asked.

"With something this complex, I'd say about 3 hours, possibly more," the first officer replied.

"Get some people to work on it, in the meantime, set a course for Earth, warp 8," Dolan said.

"Course set," the helmsman said.

"Engage," Dolan ordered.

The ship jumped to warp on course for Earth, with Dolan hoping that this journey doesn't take too bad of a turn.

*Takio arrives at the Holosuite doors, as he prepears to go throught he wonders what kind of world he will step out into.*

The doors open

*Takio steps throught and finds himself on the bridge of the USS Bismark*

"I see...keep me up-dated, I'll be in my ready room," Dolan replied, "Ensign Quinn, you have the bridge." Dolan then left for his ready room.  He looked over the ship's reports there and took a break, waiting to be contacted by one of his fellow ensigns.
