Docking Bays
Station Avalon provides a large internal docking bay, capable of holding up to two hundred starships, depending on type and size.
Two hundred hangar bays are available, capable of holding up to three thousand shuttlecrafts. Not only provides the station a place to dock, but also damage repair or maintenance facilities, which can be done either by the owner or commanding officer of the ship itself, or by the station's professional team of the engineering department, while the crew can have some time off on the station.
Admiral's Office
The Flag Admiral's office is the thinking mind behind the whole station, and the whole fleet of Starfleet's Expansion Project. This is where the Flag Admiral does most of his work. Indeed, he is in fact very little present in the station's Ops centre, since it is standardly maintained by an appointed Commanding Officer. The Flag Admiral will only take control of Ops himself, when a critical situation would appear.
Embassy Conference Lounge
The Embassy department has, in fact, several tasks. This room can be used for administrative work of the resident ambassadors, as well as a lounge used to welcome diplomatic guests (usually done by either ambassadors, or the highest ranked admirals on board the station). Besides these functions, this room can also be used as conference lounge, either for ambassadors, alien guests, or simply the senior Starfleet officers of the station itself.
Transporter Room
The station's transporter room is not that much different from a starship's transporter room. Usually, it is only manned when several guest ships are docked or in orbit, since the transporter controls can also be accessed from the station Ops centre. The transporter room also provides the ability to beam visitors down anywhere on the station they prefer, thus eliminating the necessity of larger transport pads.
Astrometics Lab
The astrometics lab is a very important room on the station, for the simple reason that this is the place where the new, unknown regions of the Delta Quadrant are mapped according to sensor readings of the stations, or ships when they return from away missions. It is here, that new missions for the Starfleet vessels are mainly planned. This room is also regularly used by people of the science department, when their own equipment does not suffice for their task at hand.
Corridors & Turbolifts
The corrdiors and turbolifts are very essential for the officers, habitants and crewmembers to move themselves in the station. After all, the station is a very large vessel where one who does not know the way, can easily get lost. That is why easy-accessable control panels are available in most corridors and turbolifts, bringing the service of guiding the people who do not know the way. Turbolifts provide the fastest way of transporting yourself throughout the station. Their speed is unusually fast, though gravity systems compensate so that the people inside the turbolift will not feel the slightest hint of how fast the turbolift really goes. In less than a minute, you can be anywhere on the station, even the total opposite end, while on foot it would take you one or two hours.
The Jefferies Tubes are, like on starships, only authorized to be used by Starfleet personell, or in case of emergencies. They are in no means a comfortable way of moving yourself through the station, nor are they intended to be. They usually give access to certain places on the station that cannot be reached otherwise, usually only of importance to engineers.
Infirmary
With the large number of Starfleet officers, inhabitants and guests the station accomodates, an infirmary, or sickbay, is no unnecessary luxury. Quite regular people report to infirmary for minor problems, flue, headache, stomach-ache (usually aliens with a weak stomach, after a lunch at the Klingon Restaurant), and other small illnesses. Also, the infirmary is regularly visited by Starfleet officers who return from an away mission that ended up in a battle with a hostile alien species. Therefore, the infirmary provides a large number of biobeds, to accomodate many people at once, as well as an EMH (Emergency Holographic Hologram) to assist the Chier Medical Officer.
Cargo Bays
Cargo bays are another important facet of the station. These large halls are used for storage of equipment, technology, food (for the bars and restaurants) and much more.
The Cargo bays are free to use for any who need it, providing it does not contain illegal material, weapons or harmful/toxic material, without consent of the station's commanding officer.
Main Engineering
Though the job of an engineer is practically all over the station, docking bays, Jefferies Tubes, and more, the Engineering department is where everything is under control. When a system is down, damaged or tampered with, it is here that control panels will alert the engineers who then will take care of the problem. Even when a ship enters the docking bay, it is from here that this ship can be thoroughly scanned for damage, and a nearly complete damage report can be made, and thus repair teams can be organised faster and more efficiently.
Brigs
The brigs are, naturally, used to lock up those who intend to do harm to the station and its people. This is never done without good reason, of course, and even so the prisoners are treated descently, they are given food and medical care if necessary, and each brig compartment has a bed where they can sleep. A forcefield keeps them from escaping their confinement.
Living Quarters
One of the largest sections, in fact, is the Habitat Section of the station. It is here that the living quarters are located. On one side, the quarters for Starfleet personell, regular guests and inhabitants, and on the other side large and luxury ambassadorial quarters for important guests.
50,000 living quarters are reserved for Starfleet personell. Though the standard number of personell is usually more than that, there are many who either simply share quarters, or are married, and live together with their husband or wife, and children, aboard the station. Hence, there are quarters of different sizes: for one person, for two persons (couples of people sharing quarters), and larger ones to accomodate couples with children.
100,000 living quarters are available for inhabitants and general guests. Like the Starfleet personell quarters, these too come in different sizes to accomodate singles, couples and couples with children.
There are about 800 ambassadorial living quarters available, remarkable larger in size (a 1 person ambassadorial room is larger than the largest normal living quarters), and also come in different sizes, for couples with and without children, and of course with all thinkable luxury available.
Holosuites
The Holosuites are mainly intended for recreation. An endless variety of holo-programs are available, or can be created by the user. The holosuites are also regularly used by Starfleet officers of the Science or Engineering department, to run test simulations. Using the Holosuites is free of charge, but it is not allowed to turn off the safety-protocols without prior consent of the station's Security department.
