Classroom A4 - Command Training

[Apodae Swift]

"I understand completely sir." Swift said truthfully. He had known that the classroom wouldn't get him a command but every little helped towards that goal. He was glad he would be getting a command opportunity, it would give him a chance to shine no matter how small it was.

[Tom Hobson]

"Your duty is for the station, I will take the role of monitoring the Ensign's progress in the position. Though I intend for no officer to stand on top of Mr. Swift while he works. Thank you for coming Commander, that will be all".

He turned to Swift.

"Ensign, report to the Operations deck. You will be the acting ops chief, in command of overseeing and relaying information regarding the functioning of the entire starbase. I will be along in due time to check on your work. You may take on a command maroon uniform if you wish, to signify your training, only have it while on training duty though. Dismissed".

William Travis came into the classroom at a hurried pace.

"Yes Admiral" Travis said in a quick tone. It was obvious he was in a rush doing many things at once.

[Apodae Swift]

"Yes sir." Swift said and turned to leave... being in charge of operations. That was a big step, he expected to be in command of a team designated to guard the promenade of maybe even something smaller. Not that he minded, he relished the chance, it was more chock then anything. Swift realised he had not move whilst stuck in his thoughts and hastily left.

Swift walked in to the room, he had on the normal calm exterior he portrayed but inside he was full of delight about wearing gold and his new pips. He knew the only feeling that would ever top this would be getting a command, but that was a very very long way off yet. He hadn't even finished training yet.
"Ensign Swift reporting for lesson sir." Swift said coolly. His outer persona was all serenity, utter calm, a gentle breeze on a summers day.

"Commander, I am working with Ensign Swift here on beginning command training. As part of that training, I will be wanting him to have a command opportunity at something on the station while he is here for a short time. Something fitting for him, but reasonable enough to gather his competence at command. Do you have anything in mind?".

Hobson took a seat at the same table as Swift, since the training was one on one of nature.
"Welcome to your command training. This is beginning level, and is more or less an addition to your education here in the academy. It is not quite it's own course, as nobody can graduate with sights on command straight away. But this course will assist you in knowledge, experience, and a note in your record kept in the academy. Now to first buisness. Let us discuss command. No matter what you lead, you must maintain a mindset of the greater good, even if it means a part of that might find harm or death. Your decisions must be based on both long and short term possibilities. And that starts soon, believe it or not. You will serve as an officer in your field, being tactical and security. But doubtless you will eventually become a chief of that department. So begins your time as a 'commander' as I would define it. You lead those under you, or if you have none under you, you lead decisions for that department. You lead investigations, weapons, work on those systems. You are vital in communication as a department commander. You must keep the command staff of the ship or station in the know of your departments status. But experience in being a commanding officer of any sort, cannot really be gained through a classroom. Nor quite so much through holodeck simulations. We are based here on Starbase Avalon with this academy, and that gives perfect opportunity to give you realistic training in being in command of something. Even better for you, Ensign Swift, because your ship of assignment has some time yet to arrive for you to take to. So we will be meeting with a Commander from the operations part of the station here, and I will arrange a command opportunity for you here on SS Avalon".

"I've been placed as Stations operations officer in Captain Brodies stead. However i am very busy with other matters, i will supervise him in that position."
