I don't think the people that fall victim to it, care which one is the worst and which one isn't. They loose their homes, everything, if not more.

Wilma has grown to become the most powerful hurricane ever born above the Altantic Ocean, with a wind speed up to 282 km/h and sometimes even 340 km/h.

The American Hurricane Center in Miami (NHC) warns that Wilma can cause much damage this weekend in Florida, although its power will have diminished somewhat by then.  There is also danger in Central AMerica and the Mexican region of Cannun.  Since monday, 11 people have died in Haiti because of earthquakes and floods caused by heavy rainfall.

Wilma has reached the highest category - level 5 - on the Saffir-Simpson scale, according to the NHC.  It is the 12th serious hurricane of this season in the Atlantic region, levelling a record from 1969.

True, same thing with victims of *any* tragedy...   For example, when i was 1-2 years old, there was a huge earth quake in california, i lived in modesto at the time. Leveled our house. Luckily no one got hurt. So, we (mum, step dad, sis, and i) moved up here to Kfalls, then in 92-93, there was an earthquake (somewhere between a 7.6-8 on the ricter scale) It destroyed the courthouse, the muninicpal building, a couple bridges in town, etc... It just slammed us.  Go figure, leave because of a disaster, and end up walking into one. :S http://www.expansionfleet.com/ikonboard/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('>

Hurricane Alpha follows up on Wilma

The hurricane Wilma claimed the life of 8 people in the Mexican region of Cancun. Wilma has meanwhile weakened to a storm of category 2, but still causes heavy rainfall. The hurricane is now on its way to FLorida, where the areas are being evacuated and emergency centers are set up.

After Wilma, a new tropical storm is getting ready: Alpha.  It is the 22nd time this year, that a storm develops above the Carribean Sea, an absolute record according to the American National Hurricane Center.

Every strong hurricane is given a name, starting with the letters from a till w - the letters x, y and z are not used.  When the whole alphabet has been done, the Greek letters are used.  Hence the name for the new hurricane Alpha.
