U.S.S. Evolution Mission 7: Responding to Skytoucher Distress Signal

*Sanchez stares at the viewscreen, with a frown on his face, as he sees the Loxian fleet trying to close in to finish off the Skytoucher.*
"Fire again! Full spread!"
*Sanchez holds on tightly to his chair as the ship rocks back and forth, and he bites his lip as he sees the Skytoucher get another salvo. The nebula-class ship no longer looks as majestic as it once did. Then, Sanchez suddenly gets an idea.*
"Helm, full impulse power! Put us between the Loxian flagship and the Skytoucher! If the Skytoucher doesn't have any shields, then we will be their shield!
Tactical, open fire, drive the Loxian fleet back, give us room to move in between!
Engineering, I am going to need the full strength of this ship, and I am going to need it soon!
Science, search for weak places on their ship, every tiny bit can help us!"
*Then Sanchez pushes a button on his chair arm.*
"Evolution to Skytoucher, come in. Report status aboard your ship. Evolution to Skytoucher, answer! Skytoucher, come in!"
*But there is no answer.*
"What the #### is going on aboard that ship? Science, do you still read any life signs on the Skytoucher?"

"I wouldn't count on it."
*Suddenly, someone walks up from behind them, as if appearing out of nowhere. This was no human, though he was also of a humanoid species, yet his features were very different.*
"What you are seeing out there, is the single most dreadful danger in this galaxy. They are the Na'jigat, energy beings that cannot be destroyed, against which no weapons will be of any use but on the contrary, and the most energy-hungry beings you'll ever encounter. At this moment you're safe... still, because their attention has been drawn to the huge Loxian fleet out there. But once they drained the energy of the last ship and dust is all that remains as residue, YOU will be their next target. The Skytoucher is wrecked and nearly out of energy, so they aren't all that appealing to the Na'jigat, but the Evolution is in a better shape. Don't think you can beat or escape them, even the Borg, Dominion and Species 8472 are powerless against them. If you wonder how we know all this, it is because we, like the Na'jigat, are telephats too, though not as powerful as the Na'jigat. Yet, telephatic teamwork is the only defense we have against them. The Na'jigat do not belong here, they have been at war with our species for millions of centuries since the dawn of the universe, and always have we been able to keep them in check within the boundaries of their home: the Galaxy Core. But our forces have grown weak, and we can't always prevent one of their beings to escape and head into these parts of space. That's all I'm going to tell you, because that's all what may be remotely of your concern. Now if you'll excuse us, we have some telephatic battle to fight here."
*Others like Legudon appear, and sit down in a circle before the viewscreen. They close their eyes and begin some sort of meditative humming. Their humming increases after some moments, as they build up invisible telephatic energy in the center of the circle they have formed. Suddenly, the invisible telephatic energy grows so strong it makes the entire ship shudder slightly.*
"Narajagi.... Sovogula... Najigat sanjanaaaaaaaaaa!"

[Loxians]

*Aboard one of the surviving Loxian ships, the crew looks horrified at the screen.*
"What was that? It nearly caught us too!"
"I don't care what it was! But I want to be out of here before it ever decides to return! Maximum speed, back to our homeworld! NOW!"
"But sir, we were in the middle of a fight with the Skytoucher and Evolution! They've both weakened, we can destroy them right now if we want!"
"I said get us back home, NOW! I don't care about those two Federation starships, I want to be away from here as far as possible! There's a curse on this Dark Passage, I tell you, and the longer we linger here, the worse things may get!"
"Yes, sir. But what about the boss on the flagship?"
"The flagship? There ain't no flagship any more! It's destroyed too! NOW GET US GOING!"
"Yes, sir!"
*And moments later, the last remaining Loxian ships disappear in the depths of the Dark Passage, limping back home...*

I haven't met any of 'em before, but I have been looking at our database. It looks to me like the Loxians have a pretty authoritarian society. I was just wondering, how do their troops perform when they don't have anyone giving orders to them?

It is indeed improbable that we have survived thus far. We are attempting as many emergency repairs as we can.

As for Captain Burma, he left the ship shortly before the battle began. He took a shuttle to scout some strange readings on our sensors...and he was able to warn us of the approach of the Loxian fleet. If it hadn't been for him, we may not have survived. We do not know what has happened to his shuttle...

Science reporting, sir. Minimal damage here. The main computer is operating at 90% efficiency, but my sensors are still responding and we still have access to all key systems.

Guess that shot wrecked a couple of experiements down in my lab, though. Those boys pack quite a punch.

Jackson looks up from his board.

Sir, the Loxians are reforming, but they're taking their time. They're towing damaged ships to the rear of their formation. Looks like they think they've got us, and they're just making sure that none of their ships get any more damage before they attack.

Sir, whatever that thing is, it's beating the #### out of the Loxians. The flagship has been destroyed and most of the other ships are damaged. I've never seen power like that. I hope it keeps ignoring us.
