*stands up from his console*

Captain, I shall proceed now to the holodeck, to meet with Mr. Brooks. Should anything happen here, I will come as quickly as I can, sir.

*heads to the turbolift*

"In fact I have read something about those peacetalks between Janeway and Species 8472 as well. But they seemed inconclusive.  I think we need to be on our guard.
The radiation idea is a good one, but perhaps we should discuss this with Dr. Chemia first to see if it is practically possible. I don't want to bring my crew into unnecessary danger, of course.
But I'm wondering about one thing... Species 8472 left our universe alone until the Borg provoked them. Ever since, they have become hostile to everything inside this universe, and that is proven by what Mr. Neelix has told us about them attacking other planets and such. I really am not so sure we will get to talk with them in peace. Let's hope for the best.

Captain, our ETA is now 10 minutes. Should I drop out of warp or keep our present heading?

*turns to Lt. Cmdr. Lagos*

Indeed, Lt. Commander. It is logical to assume that this was a Loxian ship. I have taken the liberty to look up the term Loxian on the ship's database these last minutes and I am now aware of the meaning of the term.

The nav readings are inaltered, though we are beginning to get into the influence of the dimensional rift. I can no longer say if there are ships near the gate, but I can say that the gate seems to be on a solar system, class VI star.

"So either we close the gate now, making Species 8472 into our enemies... or we take the risk and try to talk to them, and perhaps make them allies. I think all of us entered Starfleet knowing the risks we might have to take, and if it is for a good cause, I think we are all willing to take that risk.
I have made up my mind. Let's not seal the gate, but keep it as a backup-option for in case things go wrong in the end.

Fine piloting mr Dalon! All stations, damage report! Mr Brooks, what is the situation of the struggle between the Loxians and the Species 8472 ship? Is that ship carrying bombs coming towards the planet?

*Lagos looks a bit nervous but is handling the pressure so far*

Stuart looked at the view screen and the heavy damage the station had sustained. It was a close shave and it was very lucky that the station had held together.

*the computer beeped to confirm*

" Oh and computer run a quick scan up to 5 light years out from the ship for any enemy vessels, are there any?"

*he waits a moment while the computer scanned and...*

Computer: "Negative, there are no enemy ships within range"

*the computer beeped once again to confirm the action*

*The Chief returned to his normal duties on the ship*
