Captain, Mr. Vartin's scans of the the object ahead indicate that it isn't a moon at all, but an object roughly the size of an Intrepid class starship. Given the data that Commander Zax and Couselor Stiegler have provided, I believe we are encountering a species that uses both "physical" and "mental" energy in their technology. We are holding position at the moment. We could continue toward the object, but since it apprears to be a starship and not a moon, I'm not certain that would be the wisest course. Awaiting your orders.

Captain, I know Starfleet frowns on firing before one is fired upon, but if Commander Rasmain could fire a warning shot or two, it might divert the NSC commander's attention long enough for Counselor Steigler to establish communication with the telepathic species without our scan being detected.

I believe the Lieutenant is right, Captain. There is or was indeed something around the planet... something like life. Its presence is too weak, so I won't be able to locate from where exactly it comes. I suggest we should do a higher level scan before sending any away team down to the planet, Sir.
