[Doctor]

(Meanwhile, in Sickbay...)

The Doctor stands stock still, stuck in mid-movement by a mysterious cloud.  The nurses react by taking the patient quickly and carefully out from under the Doctor's hands.  One calls the Bridge to warn them and ask for advise.  Another yells out the door into the corridor for a security guard.

The Doctor starts to move his mouth, jerking the jaw up and down like a puppet on strings.  The lips start to move and he makes a sound like 'Ooh, ooh, oof' before the mouth stops again.  Finally the security guard arrives and tried to contact the Bridge for instructions.  The nurses try to take readings with the tricorders...

Gentlemen, the next few minutes will be crucial. Once we've drawn the Loxian fleet into full range of the station's weapons, Gul Marcet will fire, hoping to take them by surprise. If that happens, execute attack pattern Epsilon Nine and try to take out the Loxian flagship.

If the station does not fire, Mr. Lupin, lock onto the away team and prepare to transport them on my command. We will lower the forward shields just long enough to beam them aboard, and then, Mr. Rasmain, engage maximum warp, course at your discression, but put as much space between us and that fleet as you can.

Mr. Vakin, a question. How sturdy are the Loxian ships? Can they maneuver as close to the Dark Passage singularity as we can? If not, we may be able to use the singularity to our advantage...

Also, record the Captain's shuttle's last known position and course, just before we lost him on sensors. Once we've dealt with the Loxians -- one way or the other -- we will double-back and try to find him. Mr. Rhade, your probe idea was a good one, but I do not want to draw the Loxians' attention to the fact that the Captain is no longer aboard. They could use it to their advantage.

The viewscreen keeps flickering on and off, but the view that the crew can see remains the same. The energy cloud -- and the Loxian fleet -- are gone. The Skytoucher crew can only see debris from the battle, the Evolution, and the heavily damaged station Vontak Nor still standing. And, in the distance, the event horizon of the singularity that defines the Dark Passage.

Commander Rasmain, I believe you are correct. It appears that the Loxians and the Na'jigat have retreated. But...why?

"A tricorder! Of course, why didn't I think of that before?"
*Sanchez slaps his head and then takes a tricorder out of his pocket. He opens it and starts scanning. A few moments, he points at one of the shuttles.*
"It's that one! But... I read two life signs in there. Maybe Vakin had the cooperation of some other Loxian spies. We must be careful."
*Sanchez closes his tricorder and puts it away again, aims his phaser and slowly heads toward the shuttle. Silently, he nodds at Rasmain and Keilah to take position next to the door, as he took position on the other side of the door. Then he pushed a button, and the door opened. They waited a moment, but all was quiet and nothing happened. Slowly, Sanchez tried to gaze inside the shuttle, but everything is dark inside. He pushes a button on a nearby panel, and the lights go on. Suddenly, he stands face to face with a Loxian woman having a weapon aimed at him. Behind her, Vakin lies unconscious.*
"Who are you?"

Well I understand that you believe this to be a dangerous phenomenon, just like when the Federation encountered the crystaline entity.  I agree that we should try to avoid this area entirely.

*Only one last shuttle remained, a Loxian one, very small. The entrance opened automatically, and there were only four people left now: Zentox, Zayan, Vakin and Marcet. The ground starts shaking again, and deafening cracks resound as the first huge tears in the walls and floors appear. The temperature begins to lower rapidly.*
"Get inside, Vakin, now! No time to lose!" Zentox said as he pushed Vakin inside the last remaining shuttle.
*Then Marcet appeared, the only Cardassian on board the station. For a moment, Zentox regards the Cardassian.*
"I had never thought I would be saying thank you to a Cardassian, for saving so many of our lives. We owe you, Gul Marcet. Go inside, before it's too late."
*Then only one person beside him has to enter: Zayan. Zentox turns around to see where she is, and finds that she is not running toward the shuttle, but simply standing there in the middle of the hall, staring at the surroundings.*
"Zayan! There isn't any time! Get over here, now!"
*But Zayan didn't react, she kept staring. Zentox immediately ran toward her and grabbed her arm. He wanted to pull her with him, and only then she turned her face to him, and he could see the tears in her eyes... a sight he had never seen before on this strong-minded Loxian woman.*
"Zayan... it is time. We have to go now if we want to get out of here alive. The place is about to collapse."
