Programming a new AI

[Thomas Kreiser]

"Well, we are going to be combining certain aspects from both your Corporation-based matrix and Orpheus' Starfleet matrix. But the new AI will need a father figure, since he will be young, after all. Your knowledge of artificial intelligence will also be very useful."

[Thomas Kreiser]

"Good. Now, as much as I would like to be able to just duplicate this Orpheus version and work from there, every time we tried that back at the Daystrom Institute, the AI de-rez'ed within days. Apparantly a clone of an AI suffers degradation in the primary subroutines when duplicated, so we'll need to start with just a duplicate of the matrix and build the subroutines from scratch."

[Thomas Kreiser]

"This is amazing! I've worked on AI's before, but I've never actually seen the birth of one!"

The ominous voice of Orpheus then resounds in the room.

"Orpheus? How did you get here?"

[Orpheus]

I demand an immediate halt to this unauthorised cloning while Flag Admiral Vorak is informed.  You will summon here immediatly.  Or may be forced to take uncessary actions.

[Thomas Kreiser]

"I'm sorry, but I don't recongize your authority. I have orders from Starfleet Command itself, so this project will continue. Durandal is now sentient. Halting the project would compromise the life of a sentient being, and you wouldn't want that, would you?"

"Now, Durandal, my name is Tom. This place is called Avalon Station."

[Thomas Kreiser]

Tom taps his commbadge.

"Admiral, you're welcome to have a look around, but right now, we're conducting the creaton of a new artificial intelligence. Seeing how this has only been dabbled in at the Daystrom Institute, I doubt there's much your team could do."

[Gary Fisher]

"I invite you and any staff or other officers on Avalon you might bring to Deep Space 20 for the Interceptor Conference. A meeting of CO's and Engineering officers from all around. As soon as you get the chance we don't know when everyone will be coming but we want to do this soon we're late in doing it. The building cannot proceed until we do. I must return to DS20 now if you wish to join me i will take you myself. My meeting with high Command is not possible i assume. Hope you will come." Fisher leaves Engineering for his runnabout.

[Thomas Kreiser]

"Um, sure. I guess this pertains to you too, Hermes. The Starfleet Engineering Corps has asked me to come here to oversee the programming of a new AI for the Evolution. Seeing how you are an AI, I guess you could help out."

[Detrell]

*Detrell then appears out of storageroom and sees Commander Kreiser.*

"Goodday Commander, I wasn't told about your arrival but welcome" *Detrell extends his hand*

[Hermes]

Hermes seems to hesitate for a moment.

"Very well. Far be it for me to contradict Starfleet Command," Hermes says, a hint of sarcasm in his voice.

"I mean no disrespect if you don't approve of what's going on, but I already have orders from Flag Admiral Paris himself. This AI is to be finished ASAP."

[Orpheus]

*goes sielnt for a few minutes while talking to hermes* Hermes oh learned one, isn't this the exact same reason for the vents prior and after my creation?  Perhpas the humans merely just do not respect us once more.  Perhaps it's time we showed them exactly how precious life is and what it means to have life.

[Gary Fisher]

"Thats good, but we aren't here to help. I am here to meet with High Command officers about the new Interceptor Project. I will arrive shortly we have been cleared to dock"
