Cadet Whillis Reporting for class
Live by the bat'leth, die by the phaser

Marco Diaz

Okay.  Here is how we plan to move to the next stage.

You will be placed onto a ship as an intern to further your studies.

This session will last one week (real life) and you will get a feel of how a Federation starship works.

I am hereby promoting you to the rank of Cadet 4th year.
(please select the proper rank pip)

Depending on how you do during your internship you will be marked accordingly.

I'll select the ship for you to get the best opportunity.

OOC: I will try to get that for you tomorrow.

Commanding Officer DSA

"Easy does it Cadet, watch out for large objects such as ships and satelites"

The view was fantastic, in the background was a star glowing a healthy color and making for a great view. In the foreground could be seen a planet similar to Earth in everyway. From where they had exited the station gave them a nice view of the sun and Earth.  Scanners picked up signatures of the solar system, it was the Sol system.

"Okay, Ender as you can see this is Earth, or rather a recreation of it of course. Make a loop around Neptune and head back and explain what actions you take"
Captain Marco Diaz,
Commanding Officer DSA

Cobra

Ender decided that scince this was a simmulation it would'nt matter what he did with those ships. The panel beeped and he looked down and noticed that the dorsal sheilds were failing.
"Engageing full axis rotation to port " he said
Then he headed back for Neptue geting a questioning look from his teacher.
"Activating Inelman turn....now" he said, the shuttle climbed verticaly until it was almost upside down then rolled to starboard then manuvered around evading their weapons and  ecaped into the asteroids, and headed for home.
"Very good sir!" he said fairly excited by it all.

Graduated Helm Training

"Engaged now sir! Full impulse to warp 1.5 heading towards class M planet in an eratic maneuver pattern"
Cadet Jon Dane

Jon Dane

"Aye sir"
Dane takes the helm and prepares the course.

Jon Dane

"Aye, Sir".
Dane kept his hand an inch above the controls as he watched silently the ship moving closer on the viewscreen.
"We are within weapons range, beginning eratic maneuvers".
The ship felt like a wave on the inside, moving down and up, side to side as Dane worked with the helm to move the ship from incoming torpedo fire.
"Our forward weapons are in range, and are ready for firing".

He continued to work the helm, moving at quick impulse bursts of speed to turn the ship quickly, to face the charged forward weapons and sheilds to the enemy ships. As the ship straightened, the eratic maneuvers began again at his working.

Computer, skip to chapter 7: Graduation Test

*The holodeck changed into a replica of the Delta Flyer*

Cadet, we are now in the Delta Flyer. As you may know, this shuttlecraft was designed by the crew of U.S.S. Voyager, which was the first Federation vessel to have explored the delta quadrant. I have prepared an obstacle course, spread over 25 million cubic kilometres. I have put the course into the flight computer. You have to perform this test fully on manual control, and as fast as you can. This test has been done by a few other cadets, and the fastest one of them, did it in 2 minute and 59 seconds. From what I've seen from you so far, I am quite confident that you can beat this time. So, do your best, and show me what REAL flying is about.

OCC: Since Flight control is mostly a practical subject, it is quite hard to teach this, and also to be taught. I think it's best if you just tell me some bull**** story about the obstacle course and then I'll tell you your time. Or something like that....... We'll figure it out.

Good luck.

"Let's continue then."

"There are two different ways to indicate the direction in which a starship/shuttle is moving; absolute heading, and relative heading. The absolute heading is specified as an azimuth/elevation relative to the center of the galaxy. This means that if you would be travelling directly towards the center of the galaxy, your azimuth would bee 000 and your elevation 000 as well. In short: bearing 000, mark 000. This, the absolute heading is not used very often in starship piloting, but you have to know it because you might bump into it once in a while."

"Next, is the relative heading. The relative heading is specified as an azimuth/elevation relative to the vessel's current orientation. This means that when an object is straight ahead of the vessel, it's located at bearing 000, mark 000. To make it even more clear: the azimuth, which is indicated by the bearing, refers to an angle along a horizontal plane around the vessel, values increase to the starboard. The mark refers to the angle of elevation, values increase to above."

"What I have just told you is the most important data you will get in this education. Therefore I will now give you some questions about it. Please answer them correctly.

1. Using the relative heading, an object located at bearing 174, mark 002, is located: a) off the starboard bow, b) off the port bow, c) off the rear bow.
2. How would you announce a change of heading, when changing it to an azimuth of 45 and an elevation of 50 (relative heading).
3. A ship is moving at an angle of 30 degrees relative to the center of the galaxy. When the ship is turned to port by 12 degrees, elevation is not changed, what is it's new heading? (absolute heading)

Ah, cadet, thank you for showing up so quickly. Welcome to your first lesson. As you can see, we're currently on the bridge of a starship. We will not start with simulations first, but I would like to know what knowledge you already possess. I have some questions, concerning navigation and starship piloting, I would like you to answer:

* What is the difference between absolute and relative heading?

* Using relative heading, on what side of the ship is bearing 258, mark 010? (Starboard or Port)

* Name at least three of the five areas of responsibility for the Flight Control Officer.

* What are the five basic input modes to specify a vessel's trajectory path?

Once you've answered these questions, I have an idea of your current level so I know where to start with your education.

*Engages full impulse and enters the course. On each straight. Engages warp to boost through. Though any sharp turns. Uses the Beta-3 tactical manuever at a lower impulse speed*

"Full impulse over the obstacle comet field. Bearing 322 Mark 040. Left up to make the bend"

*The flyer rises above the field and runs to the left to continue the course*

"Beginning Delta-3 maneuvering to clear the field. Warp engaged as we exit the straight".

*Warp boosts the flyer again. Then disengaging warp*

"Full impulse to the exit of the course. Bearing 000 Mark 000. Dead ahead"
