The Lyonesse Asteroid Base was built in 2380 with the intention to intensify the undercover presence of Starfleet Intelligence, Section 31 and F.S.S. (Federation Secret Service), after an increase of reports came in of potential hostile species and dangers. The location of the base is kept secret, and deliberately chosen to be in an asteroid. This asteroid makes it far more difficult for outsiders to discover the secret base, as it is located in the asteroid field of the Dark Passage, among hundreds of other asteroids, also diminishing the sensor performance of any ships that might come by.
This based is authorized to centralize and command all intelligence activity in the Delta Quadrant. From here, observations are made on Starfleet activity on the nearby Starphoenix Base and Omega Station (Deep Space 12) as well as Avalon Station, and any activity taking place near or inside the Dark Passage, and Cardassian station Vontak Nor.
While the asteroid base has no weaponry to defend itself from outside dangers, it has strong defensive systems, such as shields and other equipment that will easily elude the sensors of any vehicle nearby. The base facility itself is equipped with docking bays with the ability to repair damage to ships, or perform maintenance. Apart from personal quarters, a small bar and a holodeck, there is very little luxury available, and most officers who have their ship docked there, usually remain on their ship while off-duty, except for a visit to the Wander Inn bar.

Docking & Shuttlebays
The largest area of the asteroid base contains empty space for ships to dock in, where maintenance and repairs can be performed. The shuttle bays are seperate areas, and have a separate entrance from outside, as well as an internal entrance from the docking bay. Also a landing platform on the surface of the asteroid is available. When a shuttle lands on this platform, it will go down to move the shuttle inside the shuttle bay.
Given the fact that the docking bay takes so much of the available space, most of the windows of the rooms, quarters and halls of the base give a view to this bay. Other windows that don't, usually only give a view of asteroid rock.
Director's Office
The director's office is, like many other rooms in the base, located right next to the docking bay, allowing the station's director to have a perfect view on any important activities out there, and which ships are docked at the time.
Base Operations
The Operations department holds the most activity on the station, and is divided in many areas. Ops itself is the main command center of the base, with already several computer terminals available to access system controls. On the other side of the Ops hall, is the Investigation Department, where all intelligence operations are handled and monitored. In the same hall is also the transporter located, rather than in a seperate transporter room. Right next to this Operations hall, is the briefing room and the security department with cell blocks and armory.
Federation Secret Service Department
While Lyonesse Base is not an F.S.S. station but an Intelligence and Section 31 overal operation base, the F.S.S. has its own department there, where they conduct research and development in their assigned labs. While the F.S.S. responds only to the President, they yet work together closely with Section 31 and other Intelligence factions, as their cooperation on Lyonesse Base clearly displays.
Infirmary
The base's infirmary is, naturally, mainly intended for the assistance of injured or ill people, but is also used as science lab if needed, for various experiments. This is a usually not very busy department on the base.
Corridors & Turbolifts
There are several corridors and turbolifts that allow personnel to move from one department or deck on the base, to another. The look of the corridors may vary from their location in the asteroid. Corridors that run on the outer sides of the asteroid, will display more of the actual asteroid's rock, while the corridors that run deeper inside the base will look more like those of a common space station or starship.
Crew Quarters
Crew quarters are mostly located in the outer areas of the base, and very few have a window with view on the docking bay. The basic design of the crew quarters is simple, but requires the personal needs of a studio for an officer. The living, dining and bedroom are all located in the same room, and only the bathroom is separate.
Recreation Areas
There are little available recreation activities on the base, and only the absolute minimum is required. Basically, there is only a bar called "Wander Inn", and one holodeck. There is no need for any more, as the only people visiting the base are Intelligence, Section 31 or F.S.S. operatives and directors, and any other outsiders get no access.
